Universal Windows Platform

Welcome to the Universal Windows Platform Developer Feedback site. This site provides the Windows developer community with a channel for feedback on the following topics:

  • Windows developer platform (APIs, runtimes, and controls)
  • Dev Center (dashboard, reporting/analytics, submission process, etc.)
  • Microsoft Store

Your suggestions will be reviewed by the Windows platform developer team to help with planning ideas and to better understand how developers are using the platform.

What this forum is not intended to cover or capture:

  • Windows consumer suggestions: Use the Windows Feedback Hub app built directly into Windows 10
  • Documentation on docs.microsoft.com: Sign in at the bottom of the page to give documentation feedback via Github
  • Visual Studio / .NET: Use the Visual Studio UserVoice site

If you’re new to UserVoice, two things to keep in mind are (a) List items (and item rankings) represent community interest in features, and not the actual priority list for the product team; and (b) Suggestions made using this forum will be moderated if they do not actually represent a feature request (or if too many different ideas are included in one suggestion).

  1. Developer platfrorm learning

I find that you are charging a fee to use developer platform learning rather hilarious. I have been learning on google for Free, guess I better stick with them. .many of us aren't rolling in green bucks, nor will we possibly be able to repay thousands of dollars in student loans back. Good luck, I will still utilize Some Resources. I wandered in hoping you were looking for someone like myself with odd characteristics or floaty ideas. But I cant afford you, so I know you could never afford me,

  2. Don't require location capability simply to contruct a Geopoint

According to the docs here - https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/uwp/api/windows.devices.geolocation.geopoint.-ctor#Windows_Devices_Geolocation_Geopoint__ctor_Windows_Devices_Geolocation_BasicGeoposition_ - the location capability is required simply to construct a Geopoint. I just want to use a Geopoint with the GeotagHelper to get/set GPS info in a file. I don't want to access the user's location. The location capability should not be required in this case. If this is just a docs issue, please update the docs.

  3. Where to report bugs for UWP, Microsoft Store, Visual Studio

I want to report a serious bug that breaks the entire app publishing process for the Microsoft Store.
However, I can only find an option to report a paid "support request".
Of course, I won't pay hundreds of bucks to tell Microsoft specific details about their own bugs!
This is ridiculous. I cannot get hold of anybody at Microsoft.
Posting in forums would be an option, but I want to reach out to Microsoft employees.

Microsoft can shove the UWP up their asses.
In contrast, Google is demonstrating how to establish solid developer relations: I recently filed a bug report…

  4. Poor Windows Store search affects both developers and customers

As a customer when I type text in the Search box of Windows Store, only a small list comes up showing a few Apps. Moreover, most of the apps shown are those with the Search Text in their name. Keywords and App descriptions are totally ignored. This seriously affects finding of relevant apps for me as a customer and is a major App visibility problem for me as an app developer.

    Try these examples for Search:
    1) paint: An app as popular as CorelDraw fails to appear in the Search result even though it is relevant. One has to know…

  5. New Payments page needs to show per-App payout data

The old Payout Summary screen made it easy to see revenue per app, based on the last month and the total. The new Payments screen offers nothing in the way of app breakdown (that I can see). Why was this removed, are we only expected to use one app per account now?

  6. windows gaming os

Hi my name is Alex and I'm not sure if this is the right forum or site to share my idea on but here it goes I have been a pc gamer for six-plus years and have built many customs pcs with enthusiast/gaming-grade hardware and I was wondering if a new windows os could be specially designed for gamers, game server owners big and small and enthusiasts who build custom and high end computers who need better performance, hardware compatibility. And network security that does not cause games to suffer and affect ping times and latency. And also new fancy…

  7. Remove deleted apps from my library

In the Microsoft Store, deleted apps are still displayed in my library as apps I own. I don't like that. Candy Crush, for example, should never have been installed on Windows in the first place. Other apps I just tested for a minute and deleted minutes after installation. I don't want to own those apps anymore. Please enable removing them completely from my library. Thanks in advance..

  8. Better payment status indicators

July payments are later than usual. I received a vague notification about this when I logged in earlier this month, but I haven't seen anything since. I have no idea when to expect payment, what the status is, etc. It feels a bit like a mystery every month, but July 2019 has been especially bad.

  9. Decouple Windows Store App package upload fromSubmission commit

As far as I can make out from the documentation an uploaded .appxbundle to the Windows Store is only ingested once a submission is committed.

We would like to be able to automatically upload an app package, but without committing it. This is so that the marketing team can manually review the text and images before each submission is committed.

I am aware that the marketing materials can be packaged up and included as part of the submission, but this would require the marketing team to become familiar with developer tools such as a git repo. This isn't currently a…

  10. Provide proper documentation for porting PWA to windows 10, specifically in-app purchases.

It is currently virtually impossible to find out how to support store payment API via an PWA. Ie specifically JS client side code.

Loads of examples for c#/vb. But NOTHING for JS. Found samples that include JS, but they don't work.

You rejected my app because our PWA uses paypal for payments and then provided NO support to help us sort it.

Not sure you really do think of PWA as the future of the web

  11. Microsoft Store - proceeds to charity

We would like to talk about setting up a way for proceeds of the purchase of our app in the MS Store to go directly to a charitable organization, as that requires special setup. Who can we speak to about this?

  12. Windows.System.Launcher.LaunchUriAsync should work in console apps, too.

Some people really need Windows.System.Launcher.LaunchUriAsync to work in console apps, too. Currently it throws an exception because the working thread is not an ASTA thread.

One possible scenario: a console app needs to open a url in a browser window, in order to get user consent from a web email provider that uses OAuth2 as the main authentication method.

  13. Provide a way to mark a Store submission as a bug fix so it can skip or fast-track certification

From my recent experiences it seems that an app submission can pass certification with no problems, but then a subsequent submission that only makes a very minor code change such as bug fix can fail certification. I accept that this will probably happen in general because full checks cannot be applied every time and different testers may pick up on different things.

However, it concerns me that one day I will run into the following hypothetical scenario:
I release a major app update which passes certification fine. I then notice a critical bug in the app which I need to…

  14. SharePoint app purchases are not being paid out

I have submitted many SharePoint apps in the store and it is being purchased. But I have never received a penny from Microsoft yet. I tried to reach out to the support, but Microsoft's lame AI chatbot is ridiculously stupid and never gets connected to an actual person to talk to. Should I pull down my apps?

  15. Windows 365.

I am a Windows 365 subscriber who has just renewed my subscription. I use a MacBook Air computer so am there using MacOS. Therefore, I notice that, although I pay exactly the same as a Windows subscriber, I am not entitled to use Publisher? Why is this? If I am not getting the full service or entitlement of use, surely I should not be paying the same amount of money? This is not fair or correct. I would dearly like to use Publisher but am not able to because I use a Mac computer but still pay full subscription. Can…

  18. Stop storing per-user settings in per-machine database files that are exclusively locked (almost?) all of the time

Stop storing UWP app per-user settings in per-machine database files that are exclusively locked (almost?) all of the time (or give us back delprof post-XP!)

"2018-10-09: Delprof2 has issues with UWP apps on Windows 10. Why? Windows 10 stores per-user settings in per-machine database files that are exclusively locked (almost?) all of the time. I consider this a design flaw on the part of Microsoft and I am not going to waste my time trying to work around that.

Delprof2 is the unofficial successor to Microsoft’s Delprof which does not work with operating systems newer than Windows XP."
