How can we improve the Windows dev platform?

Enable text effects in Windows Runtime XAML apps (border shadow, etc)

XAML apps need the ability to create text effects on the TextBlock and other text elements. This is a standard feature for other platforms. On Android you place it directly in the markup*. This feature was planned for WP7 but was removed for RTM**. It's been over four years since that post from Shawn Oster, it's time to get this into the platform.

Text effects are not just for fancy/weird text. It is needed when displaying text on pictures. If your font foreground in white and there are white elements in the picture the text gets lost. Providing an overlay between the image and the text is a horrible workaround that causes you to lose part of the image. Having a text border of black allows the white text to show on the image

Im designing a new app in Windows 10 Universal app, and its the same, all effects are gone, and no way to generate a outline around a text. This is just a show stopper for me :(

Other effects: Text backgrounds/borders, strikethrough, superscript, subscript, all missing right now...

Right now there is no option to enable drop shadow for texts or shapes in the WP silverlight toolkit in expression blend. Though the design philosophy is minimalistic, little touches of flair here and there will go a long way in improving the overall look of all apps.
