Universal Windows Platform

Welcome to the Windows Platform Developer (WPDev) Feedback site. This feedback forum provides the WPDev community with a channel for feedback on the following topics:

  • Windows developer platform (APIs, runtimes, and controls)
  • Dev Center Store (developer portal, back-end services, reporting/analytics and process)
  • Windows Stores (Windows and Windows Phone)

Your suggestions will be reviewed by the Windows platform developer team, providing feedback to help with planning ideas and to better understand how developers are using the development platform.

What this forum is not intended to cover or capture:

If you’re new to this whole UserVoice thing, we’d like to note two important things about this site: (a) List items (and item rankings) represent community interest in features, and does not represent an actual priority list for the product team; and (b) Suggestions made using this forum will be moderated if they do not actually represent a feature request.

How can we improve the Windows dev platform?

  1. Create a Custom RichEditBox with all the basic features Like Text Formatting, Support for Inking Like OneNote

It is very difficult to Create a Custom RichEditBox with all the basic features Like Text Formatting, Bullets and numbering, Support for Inking Like OneNote and also to support adaptive layout, that's too much work for basic Text editing. So my opinion is to create two new controls. One is TextCanvas for Display and Editing both Text and Inking. The other is TextCanvasToolbar for Text Formating and Ink editing.

    • Open Services library to Xamarin

The Microsoft.Toolkit.Uwp.Services project should also be usable in a Xamarin environment.

      • Frosted Glass

Add Frosted Glass effect by providing a control similar to DropShadow control. The Frosted Glass is an effect applied on a container layer (Grid, Panel, Canvas) with a beautiful blur/transparency effect (like the Start Menu or the Action Center in Windows 10 Desktop).

        • Add PullToRefresh to MasterDetailsView 'Master Panel'

Master Panel in MasterDetailsView was intended to be used as PullToRefreshListView because usually, the ListView in Master Panel is dynamically changing, It is often used for showing Collections of Emails, Articles, etc. So why not include EnablePullToRefresh as a property of MasterDetailsView. It would save the user a lot of time and effort.

          • [PullToRefresh] Add support for RefreshIndicator to stay visible after invoking until refresh task is complete

The PullToRefreshList, as now, does not keep the Refresh indicator open while the task do get more data is running.

            Expected behavior:

After releasing to refresh the list should animate back to top (as a simple list do) and while awaitng for the data to be fetched the Refresh indicator content should be visible or have a property to control its visibility (i would prefer this one)

            Effective result:

After releasing the pointer or finger the list abruptly return to position 0 and the refresh indicator is hidden

It would be nice to wrap de ImageEx in a control to add a circular aspect to the image

              • I want a ContentControl that has pull-to-refresh capability

It's great to have a PullToRefresh control based on a ListView control but what about when your page has more than just a single ListView? As in, you have a lot of UI that composes the page in addition to a list control. Or what if you want this for a GridView? It would be super useful to have a PullToRefresh control based on content control so you can put whatever you want into the body and still have pull to refresh functionality.

                • In-app notifications

It would be great if something like this ( https://github.com/RavinduL/LocalNotifications ) was included in the toolkit. There is a guideline somewhere about not using toast notifications while your app is in the foreground.

More details and the full discussion about this can be found here: https://github.com/Microsoft/UWPCommunityToolkit/issues/1080

                  • I have developed a custom AppBarButton with a number badge

I have developed a custom control: a AppBarButton with a number badge. Could I pull request to the UWP Control Toolkit?
Sometimes I need to show a number on the normal AppBarButton to indicate the count of the new messages. I have completed it.

                    • Export simple project from each sample page

The idea would be to have a "Try" button on every sample. This button will generate a ready to use Visual Studio project with the current sample.

I've written a helper for binding to and from Observables, similar to frameworks like angular2. I think it would be useful to have in the toolkit. its currently available at https://github.com/aL3891/ObservableDatabinding

I'm converting some wpf apps to uwp and I'm missing a report control.

A control similar to the FlowDocumentReader/ FlowDocumentScrollViewer would be really awesome!

If would like to offer some guides to the user in our own application, it could be interesting to have some interesting to be able to show a Popup that give user some indication in the app in a precise scenario (like when discovering a page the first time or when a new feature has been delivered).

                                • Pivot Viewer / Control (Silverlight equivalent)

Please add the old Silverlight Pivot Control to UWP toolkit. This control is not to be confused with the existing pivot viewer in UWP.

This control makes a great addition for displaying large amounts of data in a "visual" friendly format.

The control is the equivalent of a pivot table in excel , you simply add the datasets with labels and the control sorts out all the selection fields , visualizations and animations.

                                  • Make PrintHelper support page breaks

Currently, page breaks are not supported with the PrintHelper. Could this be made possible in a future update? I'd like to print a long MarkdownTextBlock or at least TextBox that does not fit on just one page.

                                    • Windows Phone 7/8 Panorama Control

I cannot port my Windows Phone Silverlight App to UWP, because it is depending on the Panorama Control, which is missing in UWP. The panorama control is still the best control for my app and my users love it. Updating the app to UWP is not possible without this control. The Hub control is not a suitable replacement.

                                      • Add support for (custom) syntax-highlighting for fenced code blocks in MarkdownTextBlock

Now that the MarkdownTextBlock control supports fenced code blocks (```) in version 1.4, language-specific syntax highlighting *would* be the next step (e.g. ```javascript)
But that would be beyond what the control *should* do in terms of separation of concerns.
That's why MarkdownTextBlock could offer a way to register some kind of callback function which is called whenever the control comes across a fenced code block with a specified language ID. The function would get the original text and is expected to return either XAML objects or maybe a more abstract of representation of colored text which is then handled by…

                                        • In-app Notification History helper

The combination of toasts and Action Center provide a convenient lightweight way to communication with users, but after notifications are read they disappear. Some apps could benefit from an easy way to not only send a toast notification but also maintain a notification history users could view afterwards.
