How can we improve the Windows dev platform?

OCR

OCR Sample App Using Project Hawaii OCR API.

A sample project for using Hawaii OCR API would be very helpful for the developers. Also need help with how to use image pre-processing techniques and supported image processing libraries on WP8 to improve OCR accuracy.

...so....? BUILD Came and went and still no access to this. There seems to be a CTP version for Windows RT XAML. No WP love or what?

totally agree! I can come up with a lot of ideas for apps using this feature...
having access to an awesome feature this in the API feature would contribute in a very positive way to the windows phone app universe and help attract more people to this wonderful mobile platform!

Access to the Bing Vision API would be very useful if it could simply return with the text and barcode information that it picked up.

Is there any possibility that this might happen in the future?

Otherwise better HID bluetooth is required to enable interfacing to handheld scannners as at the moment the HID provided is extremely poor unless you want to simply connect for phone call usage. This goes for bluetooth keyboards too.

I'd still prefer Bing Vision as the interface as there is no additional outlay required, you're competitors have these options, why don't microsoft?

I look at al the Apps that use QR-Code and every App does it another way.
It would be a better userexpirience if all apps could use the same mechanics to detect Bar-/QR-Codes.

Easy access to the Bing Vision API would be wonderful. OCR, in particular, is a feature that would be useful for a lot of apps, currently limited by the lack of a good mobile library. This would provide an enormous advantage over other platforms.

Mango provides a good feature to scan an image for a text. It would be great to provide a new launcher/task which uses this new existing funtionality to get a string from an image.
Otherwise we need to create our own control to scan an image and extract strings with an ocr library. I'm not happy to implement something which is already there.

Even if this API would use a webservice and needs network access, I would be fine with that.
