Universal Windows Platform

Welcome to the Universal Windows Platform Developer Feedback site. This site provides the Windows developer community with a channel for feedback on the following topics:

  • Windows developer platform (APIs, runtimes, and controls)
  • Dev Center (dashboard, reporting/analytics, submission process, etc.)
  • Microsoft Store

Your suggestions will be reviewed by the Windows platform developer team to help with planning ideas and to better understand how developers are using the platform.

What this forum is not intended to cover or capture:

  • Windows consumer suggestions: Use the Windows Feedback Hub app built directly into Windows 10
  • Documentation on docs.microsoft.com: Sign in at the bottom of the page to give documentation feedback via Github
  • Visual Studio / .NET: Use the Visual Studio UserVoice site

If you’re new to UserVoice, two things to keep in mind are (a) List items (and item rankings) represent community interest in features, and not the actual priority list for the product team; and (b) Suggestions made using this forum will be moderated if they do not actually represent a feature request (or if too many different ideas are included in one suggestion).

How can we improve the Windows dev platform?

  1. WebAuthenticationBroker in SilentMode does not work on IoT Core

    I'm using WebAuthenticationBroker like this:

    var logoutResult = await WebAuthenticationBroker.AuthenticateAsync(WebAuthenticationOptions.SilentMode, targetUri);

When I run this on a Windows 10 machine it works as expected and logs out the user. When I run it on IoT Core, it does nothing. If I inspect the WebAuthenticationResult, I see:

    ResponseData: ""
    ResponseErrorDetail: 0
    ResponseStatus: ErrorHttp

When I listen to the HTTP traffic with Fiddler, I don't even see the request being made when using SilentMode.

If I change the option to UseHttpPost or UseTitle, it works, but it's a poor UX given the design of our application.

  3. File manager on Windows 10 IoT Core

Make a File Manager app so as to be visible from the IoT Core platform itself, without needing to open Windows Device Portal if you want to preview files on your device

  6. Fix keyboard showing/hiding events for UWP on IoT Core

According to this documentation: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/uwp/design/input/respond-to-the-presence-of-the-touch-keyboard I should be able to receive notifications for the input pane showing or hiding. This is not the case.

  8. IoT home app launcher

A container for starting applications inside it on Windows 10 IoT Core, instead of full-screen. This would allow creating launchers that have on-screen navigation bar and other contextual controls.

  10. Cortana: add support for all regions and languages in Windows IoT Core, not only English

Cortana for Windows IoT core only supports English. Please bring all languages to Cortana for IoT because are needed to create devices for interacting people from around the world.

I thinks it's not difficult to do since Cortana for PC supports up to 13 languages, as listed on https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/instantanswers/557b5e0e-0eb0-44db-87d6-5e5db6f9c5b0/cortana-s-regions-and-languages

  11. SwitchAsync() chrashed with new version 17134

with new Version 17134 there are problems with function SwitchAsync() and friends.

On IOT devices like RASPBERRY or i-PAN M7 after call of SwitchAsync() you will get black or blue screen and devices reboots.

You can easy check failure with demo application MultipleViews from Windows-universal-samples-master.

Press button "Show selected view as standalone" and app is chrashing.

What is the problem? How can I solve it.
    Thanks

  12. Add universal functionality and support for basic PickSingleFileAsync and PickSaveFileAsync functions on Phone and IOT

PickSingleFileAsync and PickSaveFileAsync functions do not work on IOT they just return nothing.

Also phone has support but is painful to use, why is it different to the PC version? Can it be made truly universal please.

  13. Developer API for accessing USB connected devices

Possibility to list usb devices connected to the phone, and interact with the connect devices.

Works on Android, connect a USB hub and a lot of usb gadgets (with no driver support) and open a socket/connection to the device to use it. Use it a lot with IoT gadgets and android, would love to change the android device to a windows phone device and use c#.
