Microsoft Edge Developer

Hi, are you a web developer or designer?

“No, I just want to share feedback on Microsoft Edge.”

Please use the Feedback Hub (requires Windows 10) to submit your feedback in the Microsoft Edge category. This site is for web developer and designer feedback only. Other feedback will be closed without action.

“Yes, I’m a web developer or designer with feedback for the Microsoft Edge platform.”

Great! This site is where the Microsoft Edge team collects feature requests from the web developer and designer community in the categories listed to the right. For bugs on existing features, please log an issue on the Issue Tracker.

Your feedback will help us with planning and to better understand how web developers and designers are using the platform. Top standards-based feature requests will also be copied over to status.microsoftedge.com, where you can track its development status.

For the most actionable feedback, please search and up vote for existing suggestions before submitting a new suggestion, and create a separate suggestion per idea. Note that off topic or inappropriate suggestions may be moderated. The Microsoft Edge team will use suggestions as an important input, but there are several additional factors that inform the final roadmap.

A note from our lawyers: Please do not send any novel or patentable ideas, copyrighted materials, samples or demos which you do not want to grant a license to Microsoft. See the Terms of Service for more information.

  1. Keyboard shortcuts to switch between Document Modes in IE without entering F12 developer tools

    It takes too long to switch between Document Modes in IE11, please introduce keyboard shortcut for power users to switch between document modes without having to enter F12 developer tools always e.g. CTRL+SPACE+(X) etc

  2. Support certificate validation using DANE (RFC 6698)

    DNS-based Authentication of Named Entities (DANE) complements and sometimes replace the current trust model for certificates. Since it is based on the hierachical DNSSEC system, it doesn't have the flaw of having numerous (and sometimes a bit untrustworthy) certificate authorities all able to issue certificates for any domain. By making CAs unnecessay for domain-only certificates, it would shift their market to providing more reliable validation of additional information, such as who is the owner of the domain.

  4. Support frames in the developer tools

    The F12 tools currently don't work well with frames.

    We are already working on a version of our application that does not use frames any more. However, we will have to support existing releases of our software that use frames for at least a year or longer. Beeing unable to use F12 tools in IE11 with our old releases is really annoying and requires us to use VMs with IE10 to diagnose issues.

  5. Highlight an area in the display area and right-click ViewSource to view source of that element

    Select an area in the display area and then right click and View-Source to view the source of that element alone.

  6. Animation debbuger

    Provide a timeline like in Flash or Expression that allow me to verify CSS animations, how they work on current page, etc. I just wan't to enable some CSS that start animation, pause animation, check current CSS values, and resume

  7. Simulation for older ie versions for testing purposes

    It would be great for developers and designers to check for compatibility issues in older ie versions via some extension.
    It can be developed much like webdeveloper tools in mozilla.

  8. Emmet for "Edit as HTML" in Dev Tools

    While editing as HTML in the Elements tab, I would like to have Emmet support for faster HTML typing. It would be specifically very helpful in testing environment for the speed.

  9. Show computed height and width in Layout (box model)

    The current Layout displays auto when a height or width is not explicitly defined. This is useful as it is correctly displaying the value. However somewhere outside of that it would be very useful to see the calculated height and width for the element.

    Preferably this would be in the Layout area, although it could also be useful when selecting DOM elements. This is feature parity with Firefox and Chrome.

  11. Viewing multiple tabs in developer tools at once?

    I would like to see the functionality to see multiple tabs (like network and sources) together in Dev Tools.

  13. Allow to use other HTML engines from Chrome or Firefox

    IE always was problematic form developer point of view. I always need to google-hacks or I had to write additional code. Only once in my life IE works better than other browsers (IE10 and minor CSS issue works as expected in IE). Trusted engines should be easy to switch for any user. Allowing to use other engines under IE will solve a lot of coding just for IE only. Like https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/WICKET-5608 special patch for one IE version. When new IE version was released patch was not needed however I need to add new script-code and rewrite functions.

  14. Spell check pre-existing text

    If you type in text it is spell checked but not if it pre-exists from before for spell checking fields. All other browsers do it. Current workaround is CTRL + A, CTRL + C, CTRL + V (select all, copy, paste).

  15. An option, to exclude particular line from stopping at with "break on all exceptions" enabled

    Many JS frameworks still use constructs like
    try{
    do-some-browser1-specific-stuff();
    }catch(e){
    do-some-browser2-specific-stuff();
    }

    Which, when "Break on all exceptions" is enabled, hurt debugging a lot.

    It would be nice to exclude some lines like this do-some-browser1-specific-stuff(); from breaking.

  16. Plug-ins in Web Browser control

    Currently, plug-ins like AdBlock and Web Of Trust does not work inside IE derived controls (such as System.Windows.Controls.WebBrowser in WPF).

  18. Support Parallel JavaScript / Rivertrail

    Work on specifying and developing Parallel JavaScript methods of Ecmascript 7(?) – like the mapPar, reducePar etc (or whatever the final solution will be) – proposed by the Rivertrail project: http://wiki.ecmascript.org/doku.php?id=strawman:data_parallelism
