Microsoft Edge Developer

Hi, are you a web developer or designer?

“No, I just want to share feedback on Microsoft Edge.”

Please use the Feedback Hub (requires Windows 10) to submit your feedback in the Microsoft Edge category. This site is for web developer and designer feedback only. Other feedback will be closed without action.

“Yes, I’m a web developer or designer with feedback for the Microsoft Edge platform.”

Great! This site is where the Microsoft Edge team collects feature requests from the web developer and designer community in the categories listed to the right. For bugs on existing features, please log an issue on the Issue Tracker.

Your feedback will help us with planning and to better understand how web developers and designers are using the platform. Top standards-based feature requests will also be copied over to status.microsoftedge.com, where you can track its development status.

For the most actionable feedback, please search and up vote for existing suggestions before submitting a new suggestion, and create a separate suggestion per idea. Note that off topic or inappropriate suggestions may be moderated. The Microsoft Edge team will use suggestions as an important input, but there are several additional factors that inform the final roadmap.

A note from our lawyers: Please do not send any novel or patentable ideas, copyrighted materials, samples or demos which you do not want to grant a license to Microsoft. See the Terms of Service for more information.

How can we improve the Microsoft Edge developer experience?

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".
(thinking…)

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can support and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can support it.

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

  2. Crossdomain cookies: Allow CORS in IE to send and receive cookies

Current securicy policy restrict using cross-site cookies, like for multidomain shops or somehting. If I do ajax-request from one domain to another that request send without cookies information at all. It's like sandboxing, even if I write correct P3P-header.
Now I use workaround, like https://github.com/jpillora/xdomain but i need to include it in ie-only way. I want more simple and clean solution. Other browser-engines (webkit, firefox, presto) allow me to send and receive cross-domain cookies

  3. Record icon not play icon

May seem minor, but please change the start recording icon in Network, UI, Profiler etc to a record icon rather than a play icon.

(Play/pause is obv correct for the debugger tab as its a different process going on)

  4. Better synchronization and autocomplete

Import of browser history from the other browsers. Better synchronization through all devices. Bing and better autocomplete for non-eng countries! (For example chrome on my Nexus 7 suggests me much more relevant web pages).

  5. LINK rel=subresource

Resource prefetching for early downloading of resources intended to be used on the current page.

This would allow URLs to resources the page will require to be specified in response headers so they can be requested as soon as possible.

  7. Make behaviour of host objects more consistent

We need wrappers around host objects like window, location. etc in IE so that they behave similar to other JavaScript objects. Though this behaviour is not defined by the specification, doing so will be make the behaviour of host objects similar to other JavaScript objects and consistent across browsers as well

This will especially avoid problems like these - http://stackoverflow.com/questions/25008099/function-prototype-bind-does-not-work-in-ie-even-in-versions-where-it-is-suppose

  9. Allow using spell checker in MSHTML on Windows 7

MSHTML allows using spell checker in third-party apps on Windows 8, Windows 8.1. and Windows 10. Why not Windows 7? There are still millions of users running Windows 7 and there is no technical reason why it is disabled (also, other browsers allow it on Win7).

  10. font-family should be stored as array of strings, not a string that requires parsing (escaped quotes)

Previously IE and Firefox use to have similar behavior but now since Firefox aligned itself with Chrome (Blink) behavior, I think IE should change its behavior and make all browsers consistent.

  12. Allow (aind incentivize) older Windows to run secure IE versions

We understand you don't support older Windows versions. But the myriad of compromised machines due to old IE versions running on them hurts the internet as a whole - including your customers on newer Windows versions. It may be impossible to run the latest IE with all bells and whistles on an old OS, but maybe one just with a core feature set (and the security patches) would help patching the leaks until those systems get replaced.

  13. Modularity and integration

The idea si that. For example, we have a runtime environment.
Any JS or other script engine in system registers in this server.
Any app which needs JS engine can query the server for a list of engines which support some feature. Then the server gives the app list of engines. Then the app instantiates a class which implements standartized interface for interaction between JS or other engine and an app. Then the app can use this standartized interface to execute code, inject functions implemented by app into js instance....

For example we have firefox and chrome and ie installed in…

  16. Wrong inheritance with SVG's fill-opacity

In IE11, if the path element of SVG has "fill-opacity" and the element is using a marker, the opacity would be inherited by marker (although marker element is NOT the child of path).

  17. IE performance: TryCatchWithErrors and LayerMovement Test

On this test, http://jsbin.com/buruseri/, IE11 performs poorly compared to other browsers especially in TryCatch and LayerMovement stress tests.

Note: The result may vary on each run but the results shown below give you a general idea about the difference in performance on same PC.

Time taken to accomplish this test by various browsers is as follow:

    Results:

    Safari 5.1.2

    Try/Catch with errors — 8
    Layer movement — 5
    Random number engine — 6
    Math engine — 16
    DOM speed — 8
    Array functions — 3
    String functions — 3
    Ajax declaration — 3

    Total Duration 52 ms

  18. Have the tools take focus on the first click

When I have the tools open, but I'm interacting with another window, it takes two click on the developer tool's header before it will do anything.

So if I want to move the F12 tools and I'm currently interacting with a tab in IE (not the tools), I have to click once on the header of the F12 tools and then click again before it will let me drag it around.

  20. Ask for SSL certificate only once per request cycle.

When accessing a REST interface over https using a client cert, IE will ask for the certificate multiple times during the first request cycle if multiple requests are done. After the first request however, the browser will remember which cert to use.
