Microsoft Edge Developer

Hi, are you a web developer or designer?

“No, I just want to share feedback on Microsoft Edge.”

Please use the Feedback Hub (requires Windows 10) to submit your feedback in the Microsoft Edge category. This site is for web developer and designer feedback only. Other feedback will be closed without action.

“Yes, I’m a web developer or designer with feedback for the Microsoft Edge platform.”

Great! This site is where the Microsoft Edge team collects feature requests from the web developer and designer community in the categories listed to the right. For bugs on existing features, please log an issue on the Issue Tracker.

Your feedback will help us with planning and to better understand how web developers and designers are using the platform. Top standards-based feature requests will also be copied over to status.microsoftedge.com, where you can track its development status.

For the most actionable feedback, please search and up vote for existing suggestions before submitting a new suggestion, and create a separate suggestion per idea. Note that off topic or inappropriate suggestions may be moderated. The Microsoft Edge team will use suggestions as an important input, but there are several additional factors that inform the final roadmap.

A note from our lawyers: Please do not send any novel or patentable ideas, copyrighted materials, samples or demos which you do not want to grant a license to Microsoft. See the Terms of Service for more information.

How can we improve the Microsoft Edge developer experience?

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".
(thinking…)

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can support and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can support it.

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

      • Support WebRTC Datachannels in Workers

I would like to propose that we support WebRTC Data Channel in Workers
        (`WebWorker`, `ServiceWorker`, etc.)

WebRTC DataChannel is basically a drop-in replacement for `WebSocket`,
except it's peer-to-peer. For all the same reasons that `WebSocket`
was added to the `Worker` spec, we should add WebRTC DataChannel.

Here are some possible use cases:

        - DataChannel in a `ServiceWorker` would support the use case of "peer
        assisted delivery" a la [PeerCDN](https://www.peercdn.com/faq.html),
CDN/P2P CDN video streaming delivery, file transfer, etc.

        - DataChannel in a `WebWorker` would support offloading CPU intensive
data transfer and subsequent processing to another thread.

        - DataChannel in…

          • Windows10 won't open Brazil's online Banking called "Aplicativo Itaú" It is a security download from the Itaú bank. An error code SC170117

needs a fix to be able to continue with online banking from the US. The Itaú bank is in Brazil, South America, and I have no trouble with Windows 7 performing the task.

I would like to suggest a network connection to a mobile network. When you set up your network choice (home, public, offfice) you could select mobile. 1hen this network is selected it wiould disallow all update checks and any other program from accessing the internet. Is there a product or app out there now!

                • Support TLS to the proxy

Both Chrome (http://www.chromium.org/developers/design-documents/secure-web-proxy) and now Firefox 33+ support connecting to a CERN-style proxy over TLS instead of using unencrypted sockets (https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=378637). They've also enhanced the Proxy AutoConfig system to support the "HTTPS" token instead of the "PROXY" token, meaning that organizations could conceivably start to deploy PAC files that work for other browsers but fail in IE.

WinINET should consider adding TLS-to-the-Proxy for Interop and for the reasons described in the Firefox bug.

                    • RFC5861 - HTTP Cache-Control Extensions for Stale Content

                      Directly from the RFC:

The stale-while-revalidate HTTP Cache-Control extension allows a cache to immediately return a stale response while it revalidates it in the background, thereby hiding latency (both in the network and on the server) from clients.

The stale-if-error HTTP Cache-Control extension allows a cache to return a stale response when an error -- e.g., a 500 Internal Server Error, a network segment, or DNS failure -- is encountered, rather than returning a "hard" error. This improves availability.

                      http://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc5861

                      Implementation in Chrome: https://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=348877
                      Support in Fastly: http://www.fastly.com/blog/stale-while-revalidate/

                      • When debugging network calls, show the IP address of the response

When debugging things on a remote server - especially redirects - it's really handy to know the source IP address of a response. Chrome's debugging tools show the remote address of a response. This makes it a heck of a lot easier to find where the response is actually coming from.

                        • Ajax caching working like other browsers

Internet Explorer caches ajax responses too agressively. In the modern SPA world, everything is working through AJAX request, so it is more and more important, to not cache automatically all of the AJAX responses. Firefox and Chrome is working normal with AJAX responses, only IE caches too agressively.

                                • Support certificate validation using DANE (RFC 6698)

DNS-based Authentication of Named Entities (DANE) complements and sometimes replace the current trust model for certificates. Since it is based on the hierachical DNSSEC system, it doesn't have the flaw of having numerous (and sometimes a bit untrustworthy) certificate authorities all able to issue certificates for any domain. By making CAs unnecessay for domain-only certificates, it would shift their market to providing more reliable validation of additional information, such as who is the owner of the domain.

                                  • Crossdomain cookies: Allow CORS in IE to send and receive cookies

Current securicy policy restrict using cross-site cookies, like for multidomain shops or somehting. If I do ajax-request from one domain to another that request send without cookies information at all. It's like sandboxing, even if I write correct P3P-header.
Now I use workaround, like https://github.com/jpillora/xdomain but i need to include it in ie-only way. I want more simple and clean solution. Other browser-engines (webkit, firefox, presto) allow me to send and receive cross-domain cookies

                                      • Ask for SSL certificate only once per request cycle.

When accessing a REST interface over https using a client cert, IE will ask for the certificate multiple times during the first request cycle if multiple requests are done. After the first request however, the browser will remember which cert to use.
