Microsoft Edge Developer

Hi, are you a web developer or designer?

“No, I just want to share feedback on Microsoft Edge.”

Please use the Feedback Hub (requires Windows 10) to submit your feedback in the Microsoft Edge category. This site is for web developer and designer feedback only. Other feedback will be closed without action.

“Yes, I’m a web developer or designer with feedback for the Microsoft Edge platform.”

Great! This site is where the Microsoft Edge team collects feature requests from the web developer and designer community in the categories listed to the right. For bugs on existing features, please log an issue on the Issue Tracker.

Your feedback will help us with planning and to better understand how web developers and designers are using the platform. Top standards-based feature requests will also be copied over to status.microsoftedge.com, where you can track its development status.

For the most actionable feedback, please search and up vote for existing suggestions before submitting a new suggestion, and create a separate suggestion per idea. Note that off topic or inappropriate suggestions may be moderated. The Microsoft Edge team will use suggestions as an important input, but there are several additional factors that inform the final roadmap.

A note from our lawyers: Please do not send any novel or patentable ideas, copyrighted materials, samples or demos which you do not want to grant a license to Microsoft. See the Terms of Service for more information.

How can we improve the Microsoft Edge developer experience?

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".
(thinking…)

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can support and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can support it.

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

  1. Expose EdgeHTML C++ API

Traditionally, MSHTML (a.k.a. Trident) could be used to parse and process HTML, making applications such as pulling, sorting, de-duplicating news feeds possible. It would be great to be able to use the new HTML5-compatible EdgeHTML engine for this purpose.

Just like .html, .txt and some media files like .pdf receive special attention, so should .md files.

        • Enterprise mode management to GPO templates

Will there be any improvements in managing Enterprise mode in IE11 and Edge via GPO templates, like the "sites to zones" - managing is done today?

Using xml files and keeping them behind http servers is a joke in a long term. We are really waiting for more dynamic approach of this management. Similar to site to zone options in GPO.

          • Unable to attach files for web outlook in Edge Browser. Kindly apply this feature

I have been trying to attach files for web outlook in Edge Browser but did not happen. I kindly suggest you to try to improve this feature as other browsers do not have this problem. As of now, I could see the issue with WEB OUTLOOK only.

            • Let Edge resize to 320px wide while debugging from VS

I'm currently forced to use IE 11 to debug on Win10 because of a few issues with using Edge via Visual Studio 2015. This is one of them.

The browser lets you resize to 320px when launched on its own, but if it's launched for debugging from VS, it will only go to 500px. I've already reported this via Jacob, but figured it wouldn't hurt to track here.

This is important because my daily workflow involves testing our mobile experience, and my preferred development experience is using VS's debugger (both client JS and server side) and its DOM explorer.

                • XSLT Processing Instruction does not work

Its a bug, I tried through the connect page. But this page is not working so I'm reporting it here.

The XSLT Command "processing-instruction()" command is not working or at least, is not working like in all other major browsers.

You can reproduce it with this JSFiddle https://jsfiddle.net/ntd8efj3/2/
You find a description on the Fiddle it self.

                  • Support for Cookie max-age

All other browsers allow cookies to be specified with a max-age property that replaces the expires timestamp. This allows servers to have cookies that work regardless of the clock skew on an end users computer.

                    • Hook events in Microsoft Edge

In Internet Explorer, we used to hook events using SHDocVw.InternetExplorer class.

And we had MSHTML classes like IHTMLDocument2, IHTMLElementCollection to get the html, StyleSheets and javascript contents.

How can this be achieved for Edge?

I was sent to page to download IE 10 from one of your own searches, result - page does not exists. It is really dumb to have something in search and sent people there while you already kill resource. And message there is at least unapropriate, but get plus for sense of humor.

                              • Allow accepting a blocked popup without needing a reload or re-post

Currently, when IE 11 blocks a popup and you click on "Allow once" or "Allow always", IE will reload the page that contained the blocked popup. If that was a POSTed page, the browser asks if it may resubmit the posted data. There is currently no other way to allow a blocked popup to be shown.

This is a problem because re-POSTing the page may produce side effects or is even prevented by the underlying web application.

For example, when going through an electronic payment process (e.g., using www.eps.or.at), this often involves vital popups, and pages within the process…

                                • native XSLT 2 support

SVG, Atom, X3DOM, ePub3, polyglot XHTML5, .. all formats serving varied purposes can be obtained without learning multiple dialects like Elm, CoffeeScript, iojs.. With the growing preference for native mobile apps over web browsing, XSLT producing all of above is crucial. Irrespective of browser wars, now is the time for bringing first class support back to XML family. This will be useful for developers using webviewer XAML control (for example, in an ePub authoring app) also.

                                    • I would like IE to show unicode characters in the url bar

I would like IE to show unicode characters in the url bar

One feature I like in Chrome is that the url textbox displays Unicode characters. If I search in youtube смешной (funny), Chrome would display
                                      https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=смешной

                                      while IE
                                      https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=%D1%81%D0%BC%D0%B5%D1%88%D0%BD%D0%BE%D0%B9

It's easier to paste a new keyword in the url textbox to replace the old one, since youtube as other sites do not keep other settings from one search to the other (sortby, period, etc), so instead of pasting a new keyword in the youtube's page text search box and hit the search button and start all over again…

                                      • Auto Update Older IE Versions

Force older versions of Internet Explorer to automatically update.

On December 15th of 2011 Microsoft made a big change that largely goes unnoticed by the vast majority of users; updates to Internet Explorer began to happen automatically.

Today, Microsoft continues to install the latest updates for Internet Explorer supported by the user’s operating system without getting in the way. With Internet Explorer 10 we also added a UI control to the “About Internet Explorer” window which gave the end-user easier control over this process.

Understandably there are some situations in which auto-updates are not desired. For instance, enterprise customers may (and do) choose to opt-out of these updates due to a reliance upon older versions of Internet Explorer internally.

Tasked with supporting legacy applications, while also supporting the advancing web, the Internet Explorer team developed Enterprise Mode for Internet Explorer 11. This feature is designed to grant the user all of the security and speed of a modern browser,…

                                        • Collaborate on and push a new standard for "active updates' (pinning to task and start)

As far as I know, there is no one standard for how things like pinning sites to "taskbar" or "start", iconography, having pushed or polled content, work.

My website has about 30 lines of HTML meta lines to handle new IE, older versions of IE, and Safari on iPad, etc.

Let's create one standard at the W3C and have everyone follow it.
