Microsoft Edge Developer

Hi, are you a web developer or designer?

“No, I just want to share feedback on Microsoft Edge.”

Please use the Feedback Hub (requires Windows 10) to submit your feedback in the Microsoft Edge category. This site is for web developer and designer feedback only. Other feedback will be closed without action.

“Yes, I’m a web developer or designer with feedback for the Microsoft Edge platform.”

Great! This site is where the Microsoft Edge team collects feature requests from the web developer and designer community in the categories listed to the right. For bugs on existing features, please log an issue on the Issue Tracker.

Your feedback will help us with planning and to better understand how web developers and designers are using the platform. Top standards-based feature requests will also be copied over to status.microsoftedge.com, where you can track its development status.

For the most actionable feedback, please search and up vote for existing suggestions before submitting a new suggestion, and create a separate suggestion per idea. Note that off topic or inappropriate suggestions may be moderated. The Microsoft Edge team will use suggestions as an important input, but there are several additional factors that inform the final roadmap.

A note from our lawyers: Please do not send any novel or patentable ideas, copyrighted materials, samples or demos which you do not want to grant a license to Microsoft. See the Terms of Service for more information.

How can we improve the Microsoft Edge developer experience?

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".
(thinking…)

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can support and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can support it.

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

  1. The DevTools' debugger should have a quick open feature like Chrome/WebStorm

Chrome and/or WebStorm provide a quick open tool, which hands a searchbox to the user that can be used to find files within the current debugging session. The filter tool is probably very close to this, however it doesn't quite work in the same fashion.

    • Local Storage manager

NEED a way to view and modify HTML5 Local Storage (something like Chrome's Resources view, only with more control). VERY DIFFICULT to develop and use Local Storage without a way to view and modify my entries...

      • Better support for evaluated code source maps (SystemJS)

SystemJS is a polyfill for and extension to the ES6/ES2015 Module Loader (System). It tries its best to pass along Source Maps and Chrome today works alright with SystemJS, but today IE/Edge doesn't seem able to work with these source files. Some of this might be assuaged as IE/Edge implements the ES6/ES2015 Module Loader, but until such time, it would be great if the Dev Tools supported Source Maps in the way that SystemJS is outputting them in a stronger fashion.

For reference, the issue tracking this on the SystemJS side is: https://github.com/systemjs/systemjs/issues/450

        • Allow HTTP headers to add to the Console

Following the announcement that Firefox is now supporting a set of HTTP headers so that server responses can add debug information to the Console:

          https://twitter.com/simevidas/status/659502899786027008

Where they are using the spec by Craig Campbell:

          https://craig.is/writing/chrome-logger/techspecs

Which is currently being used by a Google Chrome extension, but will hopefully soon implemented directly in Chrome itself:

          https://crbug.com/171657

Could the F12 developer tools also consider this?

There are also a few other extensions which do a similar thing, so it would be good to standardise this between browsers:

          • har pages

I'm happy that Microsoft Edge's F12 Developer Tools now export network requests as a HAR file in the JSON format.
However, it leaves out any reference to pages. The JSON pages array is completely gone, and each request in the entries array is missing the pageref parameter. Not sure why this is missing since it is part of the HAR spec. It is even included in IE 11's network recordings that use an XML format, as well as every other browser that supports exporting HAR recordings using JSON format.
I would appreciate it if this could get fixed so the…

            • Test Edge without -webkit- interop hacks

It would be great for web developers to provide them toggle in about:flags to disable "-webkit-" interop hacks, so they can test their websites in pure standard environments and bring more standard compliance in the end to WWW.

              Thanks and Regards

              • Simple "View Source" capability that doesn't require full F12

Microsoft Edge developer tool in Internet Explorer. When I click on View Source, I want a Notepad window to "VIEW" the "SOURCE." I don't want a new program to open. The goal is to see what I find on the web, NOT to maintain my own web pages.

                • JavaScript Source Mapping

It could be extremely helpful to have the ability of editing JavaScript code in debug mode in F12 Developer Tools and have the code changes applied to the source file when saving it in dev tools.

                  • Show requests failed due to invalid certs in network tab

Right now network tab does not show request failed due to invalid cert. During QA people use self-signed certs and we accept them and browse. But these requests are not shown in network tab

                    Proposed solution
                    - Show requests failed due to invalid certs in network tab

                        • Tree-like view for Source Files in Dev Tools

In app where there are 1000 TypeScript files in multiple projects, I have file name duplicates.
After compiling with source maps, I'm unable to locate any of those duplicated files as I have to click through each such file until desired is found.

Having an option to arrange source files in hierarchy that reflects retrieved URL hierarchy.

I'd like a seamless way of refreshing A page inside the Developer Tools Window by just pressing F5 like in Chrome, Currently I'd have to do this from edge and that really messes up my workflow

Somehow Edge doesn't work with DOM Explorer from VS 2015, yet another reason why I must debug using IE for now. Please fix this!

Not sure if this is the right feature area to put this under, but seems like the closest place for dev tool feedback.

                              • Add folders to F12 Dev Tool Script Sources

When you're working with multiple scripts, especially with source maps (eg from TypeScript) Google Chrome dev tools shows a folder structure in the left hand side of the sources tab. IE F12 developer tools just shows a list of all the .js files.....

This is incredibly difficult to navigate! Especially if you have two or more files with the same name, in different folders (for us, it's _index.js and _module.js)....

Can you please add a folder like tree structure, mimicking the behaviour in Chrome Dev Tools?

                                • Remove whatever the character limit is on Console.log

The arbitrary limit on the length of characters that can be sent to console in a single statement seems to have persisted from IE.

Remove it. Just because long logs isn't best practice doesn't mean a limit should be enforced. It simple makes Edge unusable for debugging those apps.

                                    • Ability to "View DOM" in dev tools

It was possible to View DOM in IE10. Then this functionality has disappeared in IE11 and is not present in Edge. With the async nature of the web these days I need to view a full (as it stand right now - in a given moment in time) on a regular basis.
I don't want to find element and then keep expanding various divs and spans. I'd like to get the whole DOM as text.
                                      Great for security analysis too.

                                      • Bring Back the Attributes Tab in IE11 F12 Tool - like it was in preious versions

                                        I'm using the re-designed IE.11 F12 Developers Tools.
In the past I have mostly used to tool to grab attribute details.
Such as '.id', .text, .href, as well as read only attributes or properties.
All of these which were lifted from the html and represented on the right hand window in an easy to read list of names & values.

In the recent release of the Developer Tools in IE 11 I can see DOM Explorer and in the right hand window Styles/Computed/Layout/Event/Changes.
But I can't see any 'id' or text type attributes.

Where has MS hidden the attributes?

                                        • Javascript debugger break when specified file URI has been loaded

Sometimes with 3rd party libraries, they load script files programmatically. It would help narrow down who is loading a specific file if you could break in the debugger when a specific URI/regex pattern is requested. Either with adding a script element dynamically, or via AJAX.
