Microsoft Edge Developer
Hi, are you a web developer or designer?
“No, I just want to share feedback on Microsoft Edge.”
Please use the Feedback Hub (requires Windows 10) to submit your feedback in the Microsoft Edge category. This site is for web developer and designer feedback only. Other feedback will be closed without action.
“Yes, I’m a web developer or designer with feedback for the Microsoft Edge platform.”
Great! This site is where the Microsoft Edge team collects feature requests from the web developer and designer community in the categories listed to the right. For bugs on existing features, please log an issue on the Issue Tracker.
Your feedback will help us with planning and to better understand how web developers and designers are using the platform. Top standards-based feature requests will also be copied over to status.microsoftedge.com, where you can track its development status.
For the most actionable feedback, please search and up vote for existing suggestions before submitting a new suggestion, and create a separate suggestion per idea. Note that off topic or inappropriate suggestions may be moderated. The Microsoft Edge team will use suggestions as an important input, but there are several additional factors that inform the final roadmap.
A note from our lawyers: Please do not send any novel or patentable ideas, copyrighted materials, samples or demos which you do not want to grant a license to Microsoft. See the Terms of Service for more information.

use Surface Book dGPU for WebGL and WebVR
On a Surface Book 1 and Surface Book 2, both running Edge 16 with latest patches, FishGL gets <20fps. Looking at Task Manager, the Edge process is not using the NVidia discrete GPU *at all*. WebVR on the Surface Book 2 was similarly poor in performance. Please use the dGPU when WebGL or WebVR are in-use on a tab. If that means the tab has to be suspended or reloaded when detaching, that's fine by me.

Variable Open Type Fonts
Variable Open Type fonts are an important innovation in font distribution and loading performance, in that a single font can be configured to render and replace many different weights (among other configuration axes).

The website pop up ads on Edge have become unbearable
Ads on websites have become literally unbearable. They often pop up and cover the content. Please do something about this.

Support the Device Memory API
It’s still in development, but the Device Memory API (https://github.com/w3c/device-memory) would be a relatively easy implementation that could enable "lite" versions of page assets.

Get LinkedIn to work on Edge
LinkedIn would not allow me to post a message in LinkedIn. It worked fine in IE. Isn't LinkedIn one of the aquisitions of ms?

Hide the "Make a Web Note" button. Or just pleas let me hide the useless button on the top right.
I want to hide the useless buttons for making a web not, hub? and the share button. I will never use these and its an eye sore. I like Edge more than Chrome and I won't switch back to Chrome if these ridiculous buttons were gone.

Dynamic CSS transform animations janky on mousemove event
Currently, Edge will prioritize user events for responsiveness/performance. https://blogs.windows.com/msedgedev/2017/06/01/input-responsiveness-event-loop-microsoft-edge/#BmaPczGdg4dDGHDA.97
It would appear that this causing issues when trying to update layout/rendering on a mousemove/pointermove event.
The result is janky animations. Check out the plunk in Edge and Chrome.

Chrome is very smooth, whereas Edge/IE11/FireFox stutter on the mousemove event.

Improve "Laginess feel" when using Edge
When using edge, the overal feel is very laggy, making me switch back to chrome. When I move tabs, scroll, navigate between pages, the experience should feel smooth and not "snappy" as it is now.

support for websockets compression using permessage-deflate
Chrome and Firefox support the standards based websockets compression extension permessage-deflate during protocol upgrade negotiation (see https://tools.ietf.org/html/draft-ietf-hybi-permessage-compression-17).
Applications that use websockets with a reasonable payload across a LAN (eg. most JSON payloads) and especially across the internet are noticeable slower in Edge.
As more modern web apps (SPAs especially) implement websockets, Edge is at a disadvantage compared to competitive Windows browsers.
Please consider for a future update of Edge.

don't load tabs at startup until clicked
It would be nice if, as with other well known browsers, when I start Edge with my previous tabs not loaded until I click on one of them. It would result on a faster startup loading, especially if like me, I end up having 20/30 tabs opened at each session.

Prevent FOUT and control font loading with CSS font-display
https://tabatkins.github.io/specs/css-font-display/#descdef-font-face-font-display
font-display gives easy, and precise control over Flash Of Unstyled Text.
It's makes it possible to tell the browser how long it should wait for a font before rendering a fallback.
Some sites use JavaScript/localStorage hacks to use fallback font on the first uncached load, and then use custom fonts on later visits. This is also possible with font-display without JS/hacks.

add support for web assembly as early as possible, keeping pace with mozilla
In line with webgl support, be ahead if the curve in supporting the emerging web assembly standard.
Be ahead of the curve or at least on par with Mozilla, to be first or joint first in supporting this exciting new capability (even in beta or early release testing)
Don't make us wait!!

Limit non selected tab use of resources. I.E. No audio/video processing
My browsing generally consists of center mouse button clicking of topics that interest me, after reading a page I will close it and go onto another page.
I suggest any back ground page that had objects that are trying to output audio or video be placed into suspend mode.
I.E. I know I have too many tabs open when my laptop starts muttering at me or the CPU fan kicks in.

Cache images without etags and/or 2 year expiries
Images without etags and/or cache expiry dates 2 years in the future are rarely cached. I don't know if it is the lack of etags or the 2 year expiry or both that is causing the behaviour.
This means Edge requests the images every time you visit a page with such images making it much slower.
Edge does send an if modified since request if you hit refresh and gets 304s back so ironically it canbe faster to refresh a page than click the URL again because a refresh will not reload all the images.
