Microsoft Edge Developer

Hi, are you a web developer or designer?

“No, I just want to share feedback on Microsoft Edge.”

Please use the Feedback Hub (requires Windows 10) to submit your feedback in the Microsoft Edge category. This site is for web developer and designer feedback only. Other feedback will be closed without action.

“Yes, I’m a web developer or designer with feedback for the Microsoft Edge platform.”

Great! This site is where the Microsoft Edge team collects feature requests from the web developer and designer community in the categories listed to the right. For bugs on existing features, please log an issue on the Issue Tracker.

Your feedback will help us with planning and to better understand how web developers and designers are using the platform. Top standards-based feature requests will also be copied over to status.microsoftedge.com, where you can track its development status.

For the most actionable feedback, please search and up vote for existing suggestions before submitting a new suggestion, and create a separate suggestion per idea. Note that off topic or inappropriate suggestions may be moderated. The Microsoft Edge team will use suggestions as an important input, but there are several additional factors that inform the final roadmap.

A note from our lawyers: Please do not send any novel or patentable ideas, copyrighted materials, samples or demos which you do not want to grant a license to Microsoft. See the Terms of Service for more information.

How can we improve the Microsoft Edge developer experience?

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".
(thinking…)

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can support and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can support it.

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

  1. Implement the Iaccessible2 API

Iaccessible2 - http://accessibility.linuxfoundation.org/a11yspecs/ia2/docs/html/index.html is an open source BSD licensed accessibility API it is implemented in Google Chrome and Firefox. Implementing it in IE/Spartan would mean that assistive tech implementers would have an interoperable accessibility API in all major windows browsers, and could therefore focus their limited resources on supporting it rather than having to implement UI automation just for Microsoft browsers. It would also lead to less buggy implementations of accessibility APIs in browsers. A win for users and implementers.

      • "Allow zooming on all web content" option in Windows 10 Mobile

Windows Phone 8.1 had an option to "Allow zooming on all web content" under Settings > Ease of use. This allowed users to zoom/pinch-zoom in IE even on sites that explicitly specified a viewport with fixed min/max zoom sizes or user-scalable=no.

This option seems to have disappeared in Windows 10 Mobile.

Old Android/Browser, Android/Chrome, Android/Firefox, and most recently Android/Opera (just added in latest 4.3) all now have a "Force enable zoom" option in the browser settings. The odd one out of the major platforms is iOS/Safari (see https://openradar.appspot.com/radar?id=6058762490085376).

        • Mouse selection of text on a web page cannot be subsequently extended with the keyboard

Using touch, a user can create a selection, and little "grabbers" are rendered allowing the user to expand/contract the selection. However, this post-selection-adjustment feature only works for touch.

When using this mouse, the selection has no "grabbers".

In both cases, the keyboard cannot be used to adjust the selection. If, instead, I use Firefox or Chrome, the selection can be adjusted by using the keyboard "SHIFT" + arrow keys, to adjust the active selection.

Please bring this functionality to Microsoft Edge. It will also help with selection keyboard accessibility.

          • Improve default focus style

The default "dotted outline" style for elements with focus (e.g. links), is not particularly easy to see, especially if you have poor vision.

Can this default be changed to look more like the focus style on OSX, which is a thick blue outline.

You can see the difference by changing the "normal style" and "focus style" radio field at the top of this page:

            http://allyjs.io/tests/focus-outline-styles/index.html

            • Option to disable OnCopy, OnCut, etc. clipboard options

Add options to disable clipboard events per site or on an as needed basis. Really, such options are currently an issue for using password managers that put passwords in the clipboard, but then the site disables OnPaste events. Users should be able to override this on a website.

              • Improve default error style

When a page contains several input fields that have been marked as required, and the user submits the form, Edge will add a red outline on all fields, and show an error bubble next to the first field with an error (like most browsers).

It's possible for a website to use the :invalid pseudo selector to add their own styles. But if the field is shown with default styles, then it should be the case that "color is not used as the only visual means of conveying information", which is the case when the error bubble has disappeared.

                This means…

                    • Using 'Game Controller' in Edge

How about enabling the use of a Game Pad to control the browser itself?
I find that using a mouse can be very difficult at times due to my inability to control my arm movements; I am losing the feeling in my fingers and hands, along with having extreme muscle spasms during relatively minor arm movements.
Game Controllers, with their mini-joysticks and fingertip sized buttons allow me to (mostly) control my characters while playing games on my XBox and PS4 consoles.
Might there be a way to 'port this into my Edge Browser?
I've been told my folks in charge…
