Microsoft Edge Developer

Hi, are you a web developer or designer?

“No, I just want to share feedback on Microsoft Edge.”

Please use the Feedback Hub (requires Windows 10) to submit your feedback in the Microsoft Edge category. This site is for web developer and designer feedback only. Other feedback will be closed without action.

“Yes, I’m a web developer or designer with feedback for the Microsoft Edge platform.”

Great! This site is where the Microsoft Edge team collects feature requests from the web developer and designer community in the categories listed to the right. For bugs on existing features, please log an issue on the Issue Tracker.

Your feedback will help us with planning and to better understand how web developers and designers are using the platform. Top standards-based feature requests will also be copied over to status.microsoftedge.com, where you can track its development status.

For the most actionable feedback, please search and up vote for existing suggestions before submitting a new suggestion, and create a separate suggestion per idea. Note that off topic or inappropriate suggestions may be moderated. The Microsoft Edge team will use suggestions as an important input, but there are several additional factors that inform the final roadmap.

A note from our lawyers: Please do not send any novel or patentable ideas, copyrighted materials, samples or demos which you do not want to grant a license to Microsoft. See the Terms of Service for more information.

  1. Support Encrypted SNI (ESNI)

We need ESNI as governments are reinforcing their eavesdropping technology to use SNI field.

  2. Aggressively promote the replacement of HTTP with HTTPS

The video linked below makes it very clear on why HTTPS should always be used instead of HTTP.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_BNIkw4Ao9w

Currently, all that happens in Microsoft Edge when you connect to a web page through HTTP is that a "🛈" icon appears in the address bar. Since the web page still works, there is little pressure on web developers to drop support of HTTP in favour of using HTTPS. In essence, by treating HTTP almost identically to HTTPS in Microsoft Edge, Microsoft is not doing its part in promoting a safer, more secure, privacy-respecting Internet.

    Microsoft should be a leader—more aggressive…

  3. Firefox instead of Chromium

Use the Firefox engine instead of the Chromium engine for use in Edge. Firefox is more secure, more private, and uses less resources.

  4. Add back secure RSS /ATOM feed reader/subscription feature from IE

Add back RSS /ATOM feed reader/subscription feature. The reason is that most of the readers are NOT private but cloud services. As Edge tries to differentiate itself from Chrome (but use the chromium engine), but that feature back into Edge and let me securely (me and only me), know what I am subscribed to and my reading habits. Most require logons. That should not be needed.

  6. Don't allow InPrivate mode to be detected easily

(!window.indexedDB) === true will return true in InPrivate (incognito) sessions and false otherwise. In this way, private browsing modes can be detected. Please protect against this fingerprinting.

  9. Allow users to edit or remove issues submitted to the Edge issue tracker

after posting an issue in the issue tracker, you might notice an inaccuracy, typo or sensitive data and it'd be pretty handy to be able to fix those things.

  11. Blocked URL List

Will be fine, if Intune and other MDM have an option to put some websites as blocked to visit for users. Same as Smart Screen does for risky pages.

  12. Support TLS 1.3 with 1-RTT

TLS 1.3, the next version of security protocol for private and authenticated communication, is in the final phase of specification.
Cloudflare already supports it, Chrome 56 plans to support it January 2017 and Firefox in March 2017.
Edge should not stay behind and support TLS 1.3 with 1-RTT as well, ideally in the upcoming Creator's Update already.

  14. Bring back HTTP-Authentication (Basic Authentication) credential storing checkbox

Edge is useless without the checkbox to store HTTP-Auth credentials.

The workaround by adding sites with Internet Explorer to the trusted sites to then get this checkbox in Edge is ridicoulus.

  15. Add "__Secure-" and "__Host-" cookie prefix support

This allows a website to ensure that cookies are set with the "secure" attribute (only used over HTTPS), and optionally only be allowed for the current host (set without a Domain attribute, and the path is set to "/").

This has been implemented in Chrome 49:
    https://googlechrome.github.io/samples/cookie-prefixes/

    Explanation:
    https://chloe.re/2016/04/27/cookieprefixes/

    Spec:
    https://tools.ietf.org/html/draft-west-cookie-prefixes-05

  16. UWP WebView should support HSTS and Mixed Cotnent Blocking

Just like HSTS and Mixed Content blocking works in Edge, there should be option to enable it in Windows 10 UWP WebView as well.
This is an important security feature that should not be omitted in WebView.

  19. Provide support for Trusted Sites

As a corporate user of Win10 with 10,000 users we see very poor adoption of the Edge browser. One of the key reasons for this is that many web apps/portals used by staff require permissions from the Trusted Sites zone which Edge does not support. As a result, these apps do not work correctly and the userbase is abandoning Edge in droves in preference of Chrome as the preferred browser. Microsoft needs to introduce support of the Trusted Sites zone into Edge.

  20. authentication

Edge does not seem to support basic authentication for .PDF file types. Works fine for .htm and .html which prompt for credentials but PDF does not prompt
