Microsoft Edge Developer

Hi, are you a web developer or designer?

“No, I just want to share feedback on Microsoft Edge.”

Please use the Feedback Hub (requires Windows 10) to submit your feedback in the Microsoft Edge category. This site is for web developer and designer feedback only. Other feedback will be closed without action.

“Yes, I’m a web developer or designer with feedback for the Microsoft Edge platform.”

Great! This site is where the Microsoft Edge team collects feature requests from the web developer and designer community in the categories listed to the right. For bugs on existing features, please log an issue on the Issue Tracker.

Your feedback will help us with planning and to better understand how web developers and designers are using the platform. Top standards-based feature requests will also be copied over to status.microsoftedge.com, where you can track its development status.

For the most actionable feedback, please search and up vote for existing suggestions before submitting a new suggestion, and create a separate suggestion per idea. Note that off topic or inappropriate suggestions may be moderated. The Microsoft Edge team will use suggestions as an important input, but there are several additional factors that inform the final roadmap.

A note from our lawyers: Please do not send any novel or patentable ideas, copyrighted materials, samples or demos which you do not want to grant a license to Microsoft. See the Terms of Service for more information.

How can we improve the Microsoft Edge developer experience?

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can support and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can support it.

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

  1. Tab container

Pretty much something like Firefox Container tabs feature.

  2. Open Local File with anchor

We need to open a local html file with the default handler (in this case, it's edge).

Unfortunatelly, edge is cutting all the query parameters and the anchor away.

The following commands work for all the other browsers (including IE, Chrome and Firefox)

    "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE" file:///C:/temp/test.html?echo=hello
    --> Resulting to file:///C:/temp/test.html?echo=hello

The edge interprets the command the following way:

    "C:\WINDOWS\system32\LaunchWinApp.exe" "file:///C:/temp/test.html?echo=hello"
    --> Resulting to file:///C:/Temp/test.html

We need a workaround or a fix for this problem, otherwise we can't use the edge browser.

  6. Microsoft Edge - Opening office documents from SharePoint Online in the Desktop Applications

We use Windows 10 and Edge Browser 44.17763.1.0
in SharePoint Online on Classic Sites we have Document Libraries with the setting in Library Settings > Advanced settings> Open in Desktop Application
When opening the library in Edge and clicking on New > Word Document

Result: New File gets opened in the Browser.
Existing Files open in Rich Client.
Expected Result: New File Should be opened in Word 2016 Application.

    Further Testing:
This behavior has been observed against SharePoint 2016 Sites.

We tested on Modern Sites and here we noticed an not consistent behaviour: We had the files opened directly in…

  7. audio worklet

    Hello,
We saw that within your developer documentation site that AudioWorklet is being considered for development.
Do you have a timeframe of when this will be developed and released as this is important feature for us.

  9. Chromium, please ensure LocalLinks are supported

Browsers like Firefox and Chrome think it is a security vulnerability to support linking to LocalLinks (i.e. file://COMPUTER_NAME/FILESHARE/FILE.pdf"). Very short sighted for corporate environments that will have a ton of legacy applications that still link to local network resources via the file:// scheme.

  11. Browser Cloud

Some SmartPhones I've already picked up had some forced-use defects, the phone's GPU didn't support keeping the games open for a long time, nor does the factory browser not run as before, the only one that really did in those conditions was browser called Puffin Web Browser, as it uses the cloud to reproduce the pages, did not feel crashes or anything, the only defect of the browser is the input lag.. I wanted to suggest this idea to you. Have you ever thought about her? With it, besides being lighter, it would not weigh, whatever the smarphone.

  12. Modernize Internet Explorer for the enterprise

Provide a single web browser that can support legacy enterprise applications as well as modern web development practices and features.

Internet Explorer continues to be the most used browser even on Windows 10 PCs at the enterprise I work for. This is a problem when I reach for modern browser APIs and features since IE stopped advancing when Edge came on the scene. A comparison of IE 11, Edge 18 and Chrome 73 paints a picture: https://caniuse.com/#compare=ie+11,edge+18,chrome+73

I realize maintaining IE's backwards compatibility blotted it over the years but hey, it comes with Windows so it doesn't really matter. If…

  14. Chromiuim MRU

Please add a MRU option for CTRL+TAB tab switching. For people who are doing work in the browser, having MRU tab switching order is as important as having MRU switching order in Windows itself.

Just like how most people would find ALT+TAB completely useless in Windows if it just cycled through your windows in the order they appear on your taskbar, CTRL+TAB is pretty useless when it just cycles through tabs.

  15. Edge Chromium - Feedback

Please make Google Translate Extension work with Edge Chromium
Make Google and Bing Translate have right-click context menu for ease of use
Reduce the spacing in Extension icons that are next to the address bar - too big

Make extensions that are hidden in the menu not to come back to the tool bar, after you have disabled a different extension - what stays in the menu, stays there and doesn't come up unless you choose to bring it up

Please consider replacing the word Favourites with Bookmarks

Please change the Loading Icon animation/GIF that appears on top of the…

  17. Show both page numbers in PDF, actual page and page number of the PDF book

Like in the Adobe Reader, one can specify both : page number based on count from starting page, or the page number of the book.

For most of the times, teachers specify the range of page numbers to read from the book, but that doesn't align with the actual page number in the PDF.

So due to this one has to manually srcoll up/down to find that page.

  18. Microsoft edge for Mac.

    Hei :)

  19. Allow URIs max length with query strings to be at minimum 8,000 octets

(I believed URIs and request-lines are part of networking. If this is not true, please move this to the correct category.)

Currently, Microsoft Edge supports up to 4,035 octets in the URIs with query strings, or somewhere around that length. Chromium-based browsers can handle up around 8,000 octets in the URIs with query strings.

I don't know if the information above is based on the RFC7230, Section 3.1.1, where they defined that request-lines and URIs max length to be at least 8,000 octets long at minimum or if the fact it is based around the max length determined from there.…
