Microsoft Edge Developer

Hi, are you a web developer or designer?

“No, I just want to share feedback on Microsoft Edge.”

Please use the Feedback Hub (requires Windows 10) to submit your feedback in the Microsoft Edge category. This site is for web developer and designer feedback only. Other feedback will be closed without action.

“Yes, I’m a web developer or designer with feedback for the Microsoft Edge platform.”

Great! This site is where the Microsoft Edge team collects feature requests from the web developer and designer community in the categories listed to the right. For bugs on existing features, please log an issue on the Issue Tracker.

Your feedback will help us with planning and to better understand how web developers and designers are using the platform. Top standards-based feature requests will also be copied over to status.microsoftedge.com, where you can track its development status.

For the most actionable feedback, please search and up vote for existing suggestions before submitting a new suggestion, and create a separate suggestion per idea. Note that off topic or inappropriate suggestions may be moderated. The Microsoft Edge team will use suggestions as an important input, but there are several additional factors that inform the final roadmap.

A note from our lawyers: Please do not send any novel or patentable ideas, copyrighted materials, samples or demos which you do not want to grant a license to Microsoft. See the Terms of Service for more information.

How can we improve the Microsoft Edge developer experience?

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".
(thinking…)

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can support and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can support it.

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

    • With recent update waiting cursor does not show on tab

      I just did the windows update and now edge does not always show the waiting cursor in the tab. I have no idea if edge received my click input or what it is doing. I have to guess. Would appreciate it if you could fix it.

      • Position fixed breaks position sticky

        When position fixed is layered below a position relative element. The position sticky inside the position relative breaks. See codepen linked below for an example, remove the element with the class "breaks-it" to see the difference. The same example seems to work fine on Chrome and Firefox. Thanks

        • Get Browser History

          How on earth do I go about getting Microsoft Edge's browser history programatically?

          I don't care what language we use I just need a starting point. Every modern day browser has a database file that can be read.

          • Implement "stroke-align:outset" - single and multiple outside strokes for text

            We need outside strokes for text, because the current centered strokes are not pretty - the intrude the font fill.

            An image illustrating how centered strokes aren't pretty / don't do what typically is intended (leaving the fill of the font unaffected):
            https://twitter.com/TobiReif/status/942805851017969664

            I hope you will implement stroke-align:outset.

              • Implement link rel="modulepreload"

                modulepreload is a new link relation that behaves similar to preload, but different in several key ways. For example, it interprets its attributes and changes to them differently; it uses the module map instead of the preload cache; and it allows optionally fetching descendant modules as an optimization.

                Spec: https://html.spec.whatwg.org/multipage/links.html#link-type-modulepreload

                Tests: https://github.com/w3c/web-platform-tests/blob/master/preload/modulepreload.html

                • support for constructing RTCRtpSender with 'kind' and without transport

                  Newer versions of the ORTC specification allow constructing RTCRtpSender with a ‘kind’ and make the transport argument optional:
                  http://draft.ortc.org/#rtcrtpsender*

                  Edge only implements a version of the spec requiring a MediaStreamTrack and the transport:
                  https://rawgit.com/aboba/edgertc/master/msortc-rs3.html#rtcrtpsender*

                  Supporting the current specification is required for shimming webrtc 1.0 ontop of ORTC. Currently I am working around this restriction with a javascript shim that does a lazy initialization of the native RTCRtpSender:
                  https://github.com/otalk/rtcpeerconnection-shim/pull/41

                  (previously filed as https://developer.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-edge/platform/issues/14627286/ )

                  • support for RTCRtpSender.replaceTrack

                    ORTC introduced RTCRtpSender.replaceTrack as an alias for replaceTrack:
                    http://draft.ortc.org/#rtcrtpsender*

                    This is currently not supported in Edge:
                    https://rawgit.com/aboba/edgertc/master/msortc-rs3.html#rtcrtpsender*

                    The change was introduced in https://github.com/w3c/ortc/pull/661

                    • Add the ability to use custom themes like chrome does or firefox does.

                      Give users the ability to use custom themes to truly personalize their Microsoft edge. I have been looking for a Clone Army 501st Legion Star Wars theme for the Longest Time.

                      • img decoding attribute

                        https://html.spec.whatwg.org/multipage/embedded-content.html#attr-img-decoding

                        > Decoding of large images can block the main thread for hundreds of milliseconds or more, interrupting fluid animations and user interaction. Currently, there's no way for a web author to specify that they want an image to be decoded asynchronously, so there are scenarios where it is impossible to avoid UI stalls.

                        Thus the new `decoding` attribute for the `img` element, with possible values:

                        * `sync`: Indicates a preference to decode this image synchronously for atomic presentation with other content.

                        * async: Indicates a preference to decode this image asynchronously to avoid delaying presentation of other content.

                        *…

                        • Permanently pin favorites

                          Let users PERMANENTLY pin their favorites on right or left of the screen. It is pain to have to pin it everytime you open the browser. Pinning a few horizontally is NOT a solution as it takes up scrolling space.

                            • ReactJS (and possibly Redux) tooling

                              I would love to see some tooling surrounding ReactJS development. While I believe that on your competitors (Chrome/Firefox) these were developed by the community (or the vendor themselves...FB). I would love to see a CTA by Microsoft for this to be developed possibly following the example of Taylor Otwell surrounding his CTA to have Vue.js testing abilities added to the library.

                              Granted if Microsoft were to build the tools that would be amazing, but I don't think (in the day and age where Microsoft is so open source) that Microsoft calling on the community for a specific task should be…

                              • fix error : <datalist> hide part of screen when filtering

                                there is a displaying bug :
                                When <datalist> performs a filter, it continues to hide the same part of the screen as when <datalist> displayed all <option>.

                                For example: https://www.w3schools.com/tags/tryit.asp?
                                filename=tryhtml5_datalist

                                when you click on the input and type a 'i', it hides a part of the text in an ugly way

                                    • Implement the infinite value of the resolution media feature

                                      When you're rendering to PDF, this is a vector format, so there's not actual limit on the resolution. The resolution media feature has been extended in media queries 4 to be able to express that.

                                      • Implement the update media feature from MQ4

                                        The update media query from Media queries level 4 let people tell apart media that responsively update the screen, from those that cannot, or those that can but only slowly.

                                        Authors can use that to style things differently on print vs ebook readers, even though both media are paginated. This kind of nuance was not possible to express just with @media print {...}

                                        The specification is over here:

                                        • Implement the overflow media features from MQ4

                                          The overflow-block and overflow-inline media queries from Media queries level 4 let people tell apart media that paginate vs media that scroll or media that clip using media features instead of media types.

                                          That way, you can do

                                          @media (overflow-block: paged) {
                                          /* do something smart for pagination */
                                          }

                                          and that will do the right thing when printing AND in ebook readers that paginate instead of scrolling, instead of

                                          @media print {
                                          /* do something smart for pagination */
                                          }

                                          which would work on print but fail in ebook readers.

                                          The specification is over here:
