Microsoft Edge Developer

Hi, are you a web developer or designer?

“No, I just want to share feedback on Microsoft Edge.”

Please use the Feedback Hub (requires Windows 10) to submit your feedback in the Microsoft Edge category. This site is for web developer and designer feedback only. Other feedback will be closed without action.

“Yes, I’m a web developer or designer with feedback for the Microsoft Edge platform.”

Great! This site is where the Microsoft Edge team collects feature requests from the web developer and designer community in the categories listed to the right. For bugs on existing features, please log an issue on the Issue Tracker.

Your feedback will help us with planning and to better understand how web developers and designers are using the platform. Top standards-based feature requests will also be copied over to status.microsoftedge.com, where you can track its development status.

For the most actionable feedback, please search and up vote for existing suggestions before submitting a new suggestion, and create a separate suggestion per idea. Note that off topic or inappropriate suggestions may be moderated. The Microsoft Edge team will use suggestions as an important input, but there are several additional factors that inform the final roadmap.

A note from our lawyers: Please do not send any novel or patentable ideas, copyrighted materials, samples or demos which you do not want to grant a license to Microsoft. See the Terms of Service for more information.

How can we improve the Microsoft Edge developer experience?

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".
(thinking…)

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can support and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can support it.

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

  1. Give extensions access to Windows.Services.Store for in-app purchasing

It would be useful to give Edge extensions access to Windows.Services.Store so that they can easily integrate in-app purchasing and trial-restricted features via the Microsoft Store.

        • RegExp Named Capture Groups

The proposal is in Stage 4, so it will be included in next ECMAScript release. Chrome and Safari have implemented this feature for regular expression. Named groups make regex easier to read when there are many groups.

            • Please support imageData for pageAction.setIcon

I've been attempting to port a simple Chrome extension which builds its icon dynamically to reflect the state of the current page (which would otherwise require 40 distinct icons), and this is currently blocking me. Can't imagine I'm the only one by a long chalk.

                  • "(input[type=file] element).files = dataTransfer.files" fails in Edge

We fail to pass "dataTransfer.files" of DragEvent to "files" property of the input[type="file"] element in Edge. For example:

                    HTML:
                    <input id="fileItem" type="file">

                    Javascript:
                    var myfiles = dataTransfer.files;
document.getElementById('fileItem').files = myfiles; //This fails in Edge, but no errors are shown in console

                    Steps to Reproduce a Bug:
                    https://jsfiddle.net/vth82jst/2/

                    1. Drag & drop your file to input[type="file"] area
                    2. Check the "drop file name" and "input value"
                    3. Even if we drop a file, the "input value" does not change in Edge (It remains "ファイルは選択されていません" unchanged).

I am troubled when I want to select files by drag & drop in Edge.
                    This…

                    • EXPAND or COLLAPSE ALL when viewing "Elements"

It would be helpful to allow for Expansion and/or Collapsing of all Elements in the editor script. Various reasons to implement would assist in preserving data as viewed. Example: law enforcement initiatives require memorialization of pages and/or profiles and posts but when a page has been deleted or relocated, the source code in its entirety easily saved as a text file would afford a faster way to recreating than the lengthy process of requesting whether the web host maintained the data.

                        • PDF viewer doesn't support JBIG2

The built-in PDF viewer displays a noise pattern when attempting to view black/white images encoded as JBIG2. A lot of scanners produce files in this format for black/white scans, and all other PDF viewers seem to handle the format fine.

Happy to provide a sample file if required.

                            • 103 Early Hints

The 103 Early Hints status code allows a server to tell browsers what to pre-fetch (with link headers) before the final response is available (e.g. because the server needs to "think", or because it's fetching something from another server).

This is functionally similar to HTTP/2 server push, but simpler and more interoperable.

                              • download dialog

in browserstack, the session hangs in a download test because a download dialog box blocks the browser closing.
I suggest adding a capability to autodismiss this dialog or autoblock downloads.
The reason we need this test is that we also perform actions related to the download and would be useful to test the entire flow.
                                Thanks!

                                • RTSP Streaming Protocol Support

The video surveillance industry relies heavily on the RTSP protocol (as implemented by ffmpeg, vlc media player, live555, etc) for streaming h264 and h265 video content.

It's not a new protocol by any stretch but it is part of the ONVIF standard that essentially all video surveillance manufacturers use as well as part of the PSIA standard which a subset of the manufacturers also support (in addition to ONVIF).

It's a simple protocol and there are plenty of open source implementations.

HTML5 does not include equivalent functionality.

WebRTC pushes VP8/9 and while it may support h264 it's often online baseline…

Debieran colocar los anuncios patrocinados aparte de la sección de resultados de búsqueda y, a poder ser, tratando de no instar a la gente a clicar en ellos mediante el engaño.

                                    • The WebDriver should not close currently open windows when starting automated testing

I use Edge as my primary browser, but I also use NCrunch to drive automated UI testing for our web-based applications. When NCrunch kicks off tests impacted by changes I have made, by Edge browsers shut down, with all the tabs and windows lost forever.
The IE Web Driver didn't have this issue and while I know that the browsers are not the same, the expectation is that they would behave similarly.
Allowing the Edge Web Driver to trigger and manage its own windows, separate from any that the user has opened and is currently using, would be a welcomed…

                                      • Make the element finder work with standard selectors

If trying to search for an id by using the selector #myID, nothing will be found, only by entering myID, but this might return text elements, classes, and all sorts of other things that are undesirable. Should also be able to search by classes, xpath etc.

                                        • remember htaccess login details

Edge can´t remember htaccess login details. Please add this feature. The workaround with IE is not very useful because i don´t want to use IE.
