Microsoft Edge Developer

Hi, are you a web developer or designer?

“No, I just want to share feedback on Microsoft Edge.”

Please use the Feedback Hub (requires Windows 10) to submit your feedback in the Microsoft Edge category. This site is for web developer and designer feedback only. Other feedback will be closed without action.

“Yes, I’m a web developer or designer with feedback for the Microsoft Edge platform.”

Great! This site is where the Microsoft Edge team collects feature requests from the web developer and designer community in the categories listed to the right. For bugs on existing features, please log an issue on the Issue Tracker.

Your feedback will help us with planning and to better understand how web developers and designers are using the platform. Top standards-based feature requests will also be copied over to status.microsoftedge.com, where you can track its development status.

For the most actionable feedback, please search and up vote for existing suggestions before submitting a new suggestion, and create a separate suggestion per idea. Note that off topic or inappropriate suggestions may be moderated. The Microsoft Edge team will use suggestions as an important input, but there are several additional factors that inform the final roadmap.

A note from our lawyers: Please do not send any novel or patentable ideas, copyrighted materials, samples or demos which you do not want to grant a license to Microsoft. See the Terms of Service for more information.

How can we improve the Microsoft Edge developer experience?

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".
(thinking…)

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can support and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can support it.

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

  1. Debug for Edge on mobile/Xbox/RaspberryPi

Just like it happens for OSX/iOS, where attaching a device via USB or connecting via wifi allows to use desktop safari to inspect mobile safari and webviews on the mobile. All other browsers support this but Edge.

I know weinre was recently adapted to be usable on Edge mobile too but it's hardly a complete solution for serious development, lacking support for breakpoints, CSS pseudo-element.

Not to mention that I did encounter really strange behaviors of the DOM inspection panel based on when the weinre resources are loaded during JavaScript execution, something that is not acceptable to develop modern SPA…

Please open source the core components of Internet Explorer (Trident & Chakra). Microsoft in a position to do some serious good in the world, please help move the web forward together as a team – you don't have to do this alone.

            • Will `proxy` API be supported in Microsoft Edge extensions

I currently manage a top Proxy extension in Chrome, and will like to port it to the new Microsoft Edge.

However, the `proxy` API seem to be missing/not implemented. Is this true?

Will this fact change? Any timeline?

              • Spread operator for object literals

This feature is currently Stage 3 and is implemented by Firefox stable, Chrome stable, Safari Preview, and Node stable.

This is really useful for shallow cloning objects:

                let objClone = { ...obj };

                    • Support the `inert` attribute

Trapping focus in modal dialogs or preventing focus in background layers in modern web applications is extremely difficult and error-prone. Developers either have to walk the DOM and disable every focusable control with tabindex="-1" and `aria-hidden="true"` on a parent element, or do some tricky JavaScript to maintain focus inside of an element. Many developers get this wrong or they don't do it at all, creating horribly inaccessible experiences for keyboard and screen reader users.

The inert attribute currently being explored in the WICG solves this problem by providing a mechanism to disable entire subtrees in HTML. By setting `inert` on…

                            • F12 emulation of slow network connections

This feature would enable the emulation of different network connections such as 3G, 4G etc... changing network throughput, latency and packet loss to match typical conditions for that type of network.

                              Proposed Design
                              - Impacts just the page being debugged
                              - Dropdown on emulation tool to select from the different connection options (exact list tbd)
                              - Fits in with the persistence of the rest of the emulation settings

                              • Provide "apps" mode for websites like Chrome Application Shortcuts

Please add support for opening websites in "app" mode (like Chrome app launcher mode).

Chrome allows us to create application shortcuts for a website.
When we open an app shortcut, Chrome is launched in a special "app" mode without address bar / browser chrome which is very nice to give websites / intranet web apps a "real app feeling" especially in Windows 10.

It would be great if Edge had this feature. (maybe with the ability to specify a "window color" so we could easily create web apps that look like native Windows 10 apps and optional back/forward buttons in…

                                  • Change development cycle for frequent updates

IE falling behind before it was released. All major browsers has release cycles less than IE has between announcement and release.
Also, old version do not get updates.
Drop version from name and start actively supporting IE.

                                    • Support TLS 1.3 with 1-RTT

TLS 1.3, the next version of security protocol for private and authenticated communication, is in the final phase of specification.
Cloudflare already supports it, Chrome 56 plans to support it January 2017 and Firefox in March 2017.
Edge should not stay behind and support TLS 1.3 with 1-RTT as well, ideally in the upcoming Creator's Update already.

                                        • Support "wheel" events for 2-finger scrolling on Precision Touch Pads (like every other browser does, and every other trackpad does)

Microsoft Edge is the only browser that doesn't support 2-finger scrolling properly. Sure, it scrolls the web page, but it doesn't fire wheel events. It instead just lets the OS handle it. This breaks critical functionality not only on the web, but also in many Windows 10 apps that are built using js/html (which is executed by the Edge engine). The biggest example is Flipboard, which doesn't let you "flip" through pages using the scroll gesture on the precision trackpad that Microsoft's own Hardware ships with (every Surface Pro / Book for the past 3+ years).

                                          To verify the problem,…
