Microsoft Edge Developer

Hi, are you a web developer or designer?

“No, I just want to share feedback on Microsoft Edge.”

Please use the Feedback Hub (requires Windows 10) to submit your feedback in the Microsoft Edge category. This site is for web developer and designer feedback only. Other feedback will be closed without action.

“Yes, I’m a web developer or designer with feedback for the Microsoft Edge platform.”

Great! This site is where the Microsoft Edge team collects feature requests from the web developer and designer community in the categories listed to the right. For bugs on existing features, please log an issue on the Issue Tracker.

Your feedback will help us with planning and to better understand how web developers and designers are using the platform. Top standards-based feature requests will also be copied over to status.microsoftedge.com, where you can track its development status.

For the most actionable feedback, please search and up vote for existing suggestions before submitting a new suggestion, and create a separate suggestion per idea. Note that off topic or inappropriate suggestions may be moderated. The Microsoft Edge team will use suggestions as an important input, but there are several additional factors that inform the final roadmap.

A note from our lawyers: Please do not send any novel or patentable ideas, copyrighted materials, samples or demos which you do not want to grant a license to Microsoft. See the Terms of Service for more information.

How can we improve the Microsoft Edge developer experience?

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".
(thinking…)

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can support and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can support it.

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

  1. Support TLS 1.3 with 1-RTT

    TLS 1.3, the next version of security protocol for private and authenticated communication, is in the final phase of specification.
    Cloudflare already supports it, Chrome 56 plans to support it January 2017 and Firefox in March 2017.
    Edge should not stay behind and support TLS 1.3 with 1-RTT as well, ideally in the upcoming Creator's Update already.

      • Prevent FOUT and control font loading with CSS font-display

        https://tabatkins.github.io/specs/css-font-display/#descdef-font-face-font-display

        font-display gives easy, and precise control over Flash Of Unstyled Text.

        It's makes it possible to tell the browser how long it should wait for a font before rendering a fallback.

        Some sites use JavaScript/localStorage hacks to use fallback font on the first uncached load, and then use custom fonts on later visits. This is also possible with font-display without JS/hacks.

        • requestIdleCallback

          requestIdleCallback is the way that adopting requestAnimationFrame allowed us to schedule animations properly and maximize our chances of hitting 60fps, requestIdleCallback will schedule work when there is free time at the end of a frame, or when the user is inactive.

          • indexedDB explorer in dev-tools

            It would be nice to see the indexedDB database in dev-tools.
            Think about:
            * Version
            * ObjectStores
            * Data in objectstores
            * Indexes for objectstores

            • Support CSS Animation and Transition for SVG Properties on SVG Elements

              Support CSS Animations and Transitions for SVG Properties on SVG Elements like:
              stroke-dashoffset, stroke-dasharray, fill, stroke and so on.

              Example Animation CSS that should work:

              .svg {
              animation:svg-animation 1.5s ease-in-out infinite;
              }

              @-webkit-keyframes svg-animation {
              0% {
              stroke-dasharray: 1, 50;
              stroke-dashoffset: 0;
              }
              100% {
              stroke-dasharray: 50, 150;
              stroke-dashoffset: -100;
              }
              }

              Currently this example is working in all browsers except in Edge.
              I am not really sure if this is feature is SMIL, but since the animations are declared in CSS this shouldnt be really SMIL.

              Would be nice to get some feedback.

              Best regards,
              Rene

                        • Better image scaling. No more jaggies for downscaled images!

                          Responsive websites typically send a larger version of an image and then scale it down to match the available space on-screen. This is especially important in mobile when the user can change screen sizes without a reload by changing from portrait to landscape, for example. Even the Microsoft websites utilize this kind of responsive design.

                          What does this have to do with IE? Well if you do this with IE the insane image scaling will provide images so jagged even the largest fonts become unreadable.

                          In earlier versions of IE we could use a nonstandard CSS property to switch to…

                              • Support PNG, GIF & SVG cursors and other cursor enhancements

                                Add support for more formats than just the CUR and ANI file formats in the CSS cursor property. PNG, SVG and GIF support would be good.

                                Also, consider supporting the zoom-in/out and grab/grabbing properties, in addition to updating the browser-specific cursors like no-drop, all-scroll, col/row-resize, alias, cell, copy and context-menu cursors, as they look small/jagged, old and weird on my high DPI screen.

                                • Better memory management

                                  Improving memory management would prevent IE from blowing through all available graphic memory. Often, when using a high number of tabs (common in development), IE will overload the available graphics memory (never RAM), and elements will start disappearing from web pages or failing to load altogether.

                                  This needs to be tweaked so that it stops happening - it doesn't seem to be an issue for any other browser.

                                    • WebVR : Add support for Oculus Rift, OpenVR and OSVR

                                      WebVR is now supported by the latest version of Edge in the Creator Update and that's amazing. However, it is limited to Mixed Reality Devices and those devices and they are not available. Windows 10 users who already have a VR headset such as a Rift or a Vive, have to use a beta browser to enjoy WebVR.

                                      Please considere to update Edge with at least a support for the Oculus Rift and the Vive. And only if you want to be a super hero, add OSVR support too.

                                      • EDGE EXTENSIONS .NET COMPATIBILITY

                                        I see that this vote was taken down (which is completely against the spirit of a *community* telling YOU what THEY want).

                                        .NET has been around for over a decade. Organizations and developers alike have invested hundreds of thousands of hours learning .NET and its languages. Code bases and libraries have been built around these languages that eliminate friction and encapsulate solutions to problems encountered over the lifetime of a product and/or framework.

                                        By forcing developers to use JavaScript, and not utilize .NET languages, the Edge team is essentially forcing their users to break the fundamental principle of DRY: …

                                        • Support WebRTC Datachannels in Workers

                                          I would like to propose that we support WebRTC Data Channel in Workers
                                          (`WebWorker`, `ServiceWorker`, etc.)

                                          WebRTC DataChannel is basically a drop-in replacement for `WebSocket`,
                                          except it's peer-to-peer. For all the same reasons that `WebSocket`
                                          was added to the `Worker` spec, we should add WebRTC DataChannel.

                                          Here are some possible use cases:

                                          - DataChannel in a `ServiceWorker` would support the use case of "peer
                                          assisted delivery" a la [PeerCDN](https://www.peercdn.com/faq.html),
                                          CDN/P2P CDN video streaming delivery, file transfer, etc.

                                          - DataChannel in a `WebWorker` would support offloading CPU intensive
                                          data transfer and subsequent processing to another thread.

                                          - DataChannel in…
