Microsoft Edge Developer

Hi, are you a web developer or designer?

“No, I just want to share feedback on Microsoft Edge.”

Please use the Feedback Hub (requires Windows 10) to submit your feedback in the Microsoft Edge category. This site is for web developer and designer feedback only. Other feedback will be closed without action.

“Yes, I’m a web developer or designer with feedback for the Microsoft Edge platform.”

Great! This site is where the Microsoft Edge team collects feature requests from the web developer and designer community in the categories listed to the right. For bugs on existing features, please log an issue on the Issue Tracker.

Your feedback will help us with planning and to better understand how web developers and designers are using the platform. Top standards-based feature requests will also be copied over to status.microsoftedge.com, where you can track its development status.

For the most actionable feedback, please search and up vote for existing suggestions before submitting a new suggestion, and create a separate suggestion per idea. Note that off topic or inappropriate suggestions may be moderated. The Microsoft Edge team will use suggestions as an important input, but there are several additional factors that inform the final roadmap.

A note from our lawyers: Please do not send any novel or patentable ideas, copyrighted materials, samples or demos which you do not want to grant a license to Microsoft. See the Terms of Service for more information.

How can we improve the Microsoft Edge developer experience?

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".
(thinking…)

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can support and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can support it.

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

  1. Service Worker

ServiceWorkers (formerly Navigation Controllers) are a new system that provides event-driven scripts that run independent of web pages. They are similar to SharedWorkers except that their lifetime is different and they have access to domain-wide events such as network fetches.

    • Add CSS transforms on SVG elements

I created a CSS-based grid system for my SVG sprite sheet using transforms, only to revert to transform attributes after it collapsed in IE9+.
Please add support for CSS transformation in SVG.

      • Subresource Integrity

Subresource Integrity defines a mechanism by which user agents may verify that a fetched resource has been delivered without unexpected manipulation. In a nutshell, metadata inlined into HTML elements allows the browser to determine whether the resource that was downloaded matches the resource the page's author expected to download.

                • Implement DOM4 methods: prepend(), append(), before(), after() and replaceWith()

                  Steps to reproduce the problem:
                  1. Open the testcase http://jsbin.com/fiqacod/edit?html,js,output in Edge.

                  What is the expected behavior?
                  The test should pass.

                  What went wrong?
The test failed, indicating that Edge does not support the relevant DOM4 methods.

                    • add support for web assembly as early as possible, keeping pace with mozilla

In line with webgl support, be ahead if the curve in supporting the emerging web assembly standard.

Be ahead of the curve or at least on par with Mozilla, to be first or joint first in supporting this exciting new capability (even in beta or early release testing)

                      Don't make us wait!!

                      • Dock tools vertically

This feature would add the ability to dock F12 to the left side of the IE window.

                        Proposed Design
                        - Extend the current horizontal explorer bar system that F12 uses to cover the vertical scenario
                        - Additional dropdown for docking to indicate the different options (right, bottom, left)
                        - No top docking as the explorer bar system doesn't support it (and it's less important as windows are commonly side by side not bottom to top)
                        - Not mirrored (i.e. no support for RTL)
                        - Each tool in F12 will have to adjust their layout to cope with the change

                        • Force Active and Focus Pseudo States

This feature would add the ability to set the focus and active pseudo states from the DOM Explorer pseudo state checkboxes.

                          Proposed Design
                          - New checkboxes on the pseudo state toggles
                          - Would not fire any JavaScript events (e.g. focus, blur)
                          - Force on only no force off (off toggle state will follow browser default)

                          • minlength attribute

We have the maxlength attribute to control the maximum number of characters in an <input> or <textarea>. The minlength attribute is new in HTML5, and is used to specify the minimum number of characters. We definitely need that, please be the first browser to implement it.

                            Spec: http://w3.org/TR/html5/forms.html#attr-input-minlength

                            • Implement hyperlink auditing (aka the ping attribute)

Ever tried copying and pasting a link from a set of Google search results? Here's an example:

                              https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0CCEQFjAA&url=https%3A%2F%2Fconnect.microsoft.com%2Fie%2F&ei=OAPBVLogzdDsBu7KgTA&usg=AFQjCNG2TWRj8pPxQdzWjajPCM1RWkvyRw&sig2=i-4rIaQUpM5oqA139JPc3g&bvm=bv.83829542,d.ZWU

What's going on here? Tracking. Instead of directly being sent to the target URL, we're redirected through http://google.com/url so that Google can record what link is your preference and cater to your searches better in the future.

The ping attribute for hyperlinks aims to make this process more transparent, with additional benefits such as optimising network traffic so the target page loads more quickly, as well as an option to disable sending the pings for more user-friendly privacy.

                              https://html.spec.whatwg.org/multipage/semantics.html#hyperlink-auditing

Browser extensions such as Stylus/Stylish use templates which call .firstElementChild but we can't port these to Edge because the full DocumentFragment api isn't supported right now.
