APNG (animated PNG) images support [Firefox and Safari 8 support it]
APNG is an extension of the Portable Network Graphics (PNG) format, adding support for animated images. It is intended to be a replacement for simple animated images that have traditionally used the GIF format, while adding support for 24-bit images and 8-bit transparency. APNG is backwards-compatible with PNG; any PNG decoder should be able to ignore the APNG-specific chunks and display a single image.

This has been the #3 highest voted idea for half a year now. I don't think hitting 10,000 votes will make a difference..

don't they have to do something about it when we hit 10,000 votes?

Remember when you guys launched edge and promised it would be a modern browser that doesn't get left behind again? You're getting left behind.

Shame. Edge is the only (popular) browser which doesn't support APNG: https://caniuse.com/#search=apng

Just so you know, WebM isn't comparable, as VP8 is strictly lossy, while VP9 still allows lossy compression, whereas the point of APNG is returning the very same image sequence as the source, also thanks to up to 16 bit per channel and alpha support. When dealing with text and various computer generated images, lossless compression is critical not to introduce visible artifacts and often has minimal overhead compared to lossy compression, in the case of text and simple shapes it can be way more efficient than DCT-derived lossy compression, actually.

ummm, I don't think it's that important anymore. We have moved to autoplayed and muted webm video.

We need that to make our sites faster and save thousands of bytes transferred thru network. Please add support of APNG. It will make Edge better. PS: Sorry for my bad English.

This just moved from the #4 to the #3 highest voted idea. I really hope Microsoft will look into this, or at least give us an answer.

Come on, how hard could it be to support APNG?
Don't give me silly "Due to Security/Performance" excuses.

Please add support for this. It is supported in most other browsers now including Chrome, Mozilla, Safari, and others.

It looks exactly like a story about PNG with alpha and IE6.
