Microsoft Edge Developer

Hi, are you a web developer or designer?

“No, I just want to share feedback on Microsoft Edge.”

Please use the Feedback Hub (requires Windows 10) to submit your feedback in the Microsoft Edge category. This site is for web developer and designer feedback only. Other feedback will be closed without action.

“Yes, I’m a web developer or designer with feedback for the Microsoft Edge platform.”

Great! This site is where the Microsoft Edge team collects feature requests from the web developer and designer community in the categories listed to the right. For bugs on existing features, please log an issue on the Issue Tracker.

Your feedback will help us with planning and to better understand how web developers and designers are using the platform. Top standards-based feature requests will also be copied over to status.microsoftedge.com, where you can track its development status.

For the most actionable feedback, please search and up vote for existing suggestions before submitting a new suggestion, and create a separate suggestion per idea. Note that off topic or inappropriate suggestions may be moderated. The Microsoft Edge team will use suggestions as an important input, but there are several additional factors that inform the final roadmap.

A note from our lawyers: Please do not send any novel or patentable ideas, copyrighted materials, samples or demos which you do not want to grant a license to Microsoft. See the Terms of Service for more information.

How can we improve the Microsoft Edge developer experience?

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".
(thinking…)

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can support and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can support it.

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

    • Support "SameSite" cookie option

The "SameSite" cookie prevents CSRF attacks by telling the browser not to send the cookie in requests that originate from sites other than the one that created it.

      Read the spec draft here:

      https://tools.ietf.org/html/draft-west-first-party-cookies-07

Chrome already supports it as declared here:

      • stop support of 'ime-mode' with recommendation of W3C

At least, Edge should offer the option which ignores 'ime-mode'.

        FYI:
CSS Basic User Interface Module Level 3 (CSS3 UI)
        W3C Candidate Recommendation, 02 March 2017

        > 6.3.2. Obsolete: the ime-mode property
        > User agents should not support the ime-mode property.

        • landmark navigation

I would like to see a feature for navigating to "landmark regions" using the keyboard. Very similar to the way the F6 key works in the Windows Explorer (try it! :)

Landmark regions can be defined by the page author by either using ARIA landmark roles (http://w3c.github.io/aria/aria/aria.html#landmark_roles), or HTML5 elements that default to having landmark roles (see summary, below, for a list of these elements).
Note that the generic landmark role="region" - and its corresponding html "section" element - must have a label before it is considered a true landmark, whereas nav, aside, etc do not technically require…

          • Display: contents

Display: contents is incredibly useful when working with grid and flexbox. It is already implemented in Firefox and works really well.
It allows ancestors that are not direct children to become flex-items or grid-items.

                • Implement overlay scroll bar (ms-overflow-style)

                  When switching between `overflow: scroll` and `overflow: hidden`, the <body> padding changed.
It is annoying, overlay scroll bar can avoid hack.

I can use overlay scroll bar at IE (CSS), Chrome (flag), Firefox (add-on),
                  Edge should also.

                  • Ability to drag and drop images from the browser to desktop/folder

Most browsers support the ability to drag and drop images from the browser to a folder on your taskbar or on your desktop. This makes it easy to quickly save images from a webpage. The closest thing Edge is able to do now, is making a shortcut to the url of the image. Which of course doesn't help.

                      • sendMessage for extensions

When there are more than one extension have been loaded, the message will be send to all the extensions and the response will be chaos. Is is very essential to have the function that sending a single message to specific extension rather than to different extensions.
Google Chrome can avoid by chrome.runtime.sendMessage

                        • Put the console.log source at the same line on the topright corner

When you do a console.log("hello"), then the text "hello" will be outputted to the console, and then there will also be outputted a "source-link" below that line which can take you to the sourcecode and line of where that console.log was executed.

So if you do 5 console.log, then there will be 10 lines because of the source-link

Can you put the source-link to the right or top-right corner on every log, because that would save many lines and be more readable.

                          That is was Chrome does.

                          • Support Screen Capture per W3C Specification

The Screen Capture (or screen share) specification [1] allows websites to obtain a MediaStream of the user's screen, given permission from the user.

Firefox has implemented the feature per specification (no longer requiring a whitelist [2]), while Chrome only allows the feature when initiated from an extension.

                            • Fix Insufficient colour contrast of select box items in Windows 10

go to any website with a select box in IE11 or Edge on Windows 10

                              Click/tab to expand for options

The selected/active element has white text and light blue background, that has a contrast ratio of 2.9:1. That makes it inaccessible.

Resolution: Provide a darker background with higher contrast ratio

                              • Support TLS 1.3 with 1-RTT

TLS 1.3, the next version of security protocol for private and authenticated communication, is in the final phase of specification.
Cloudflare already supports it, Chrome 56 plans to support it January 2017 and Firefox in March 2017.
Edge should not stay behind and support TLS 1.3 with 1-RTT as well, ideally in the upcoming Creator's Update already.

                                  • Multiple Tab Selection

Would it be possible to implement the simultaneous selection of multiple consecutive tabs using the Shift or Ctrl Keys? I find it useful whenever I want to handle a selection of tabs at once - whether to move them to a different window/screen or delete them via Ctrl+W.

In short, "it'd be cool if" we could hold Ctrl and left-click to add particular tabs to the selection AND/OR left-click on one tab, then Shift+LClick on another tab to add the two (AND any tab located between them) to the selection

                                    • #rrggbbaa and #rgba color notation support

Couldn't find this anywhere here, so I'll post this feature request.

I'm asking for support of the following notations:

                                      background-color: #12345678;

                                      and

                                      background-color: #1234;

                                      Spec: https://drafts.csswg.org/css-color/#hex-notation

                                      • Search when I start typing

Begin search when typing feature. Firefox has this. you simply start typing (without hitting CTRL +F) and begins search. Most useful when finding key info in articles / how-to's. Can be toggled on or off in settings

                                        • Selectable items in history, favourites...

Right now you can only interact with an item one by one.
Say you go to your favourites and you want to drag multiple links inside one folder. You'll have to do this one item after another, instead it would be nice if you could select the desired options and then interact with all of them
