Microsoft Edge Developer

Hi, are you a web developer or designer?

“No, I just want to share feedback on Microsoft Edge.”

Please use the Feedback Hub (requires Windows 10) to submit your feedback in the Microsoft Edge category. This site is for web developer and designer feedback only. Other feedback will be closed without action.

“Yes, I’m a web developer or designer with feedback for the Microsoft Edge platform.”

Great! This site is where the Microsoft Edge team collects feature requests from the web developer and designer community in the categories listed to the right. For bugs on existing features, please log an issue on the Issue Tracker.

Your feedback will help us with planning and to better understand how web developers and designers are using the platform. Top standards-based feature requests will also be copied over to status.microsoftedge.com, where you can track its development status.

For the most actionable feedback, please search and up vote for existing suggestions before submitting a new suggestion, and create a separate suggestion per idea. Note that off topic or inappropriate suggestions may be moderated. The Microsoft Edge team will use suggestions as an important input, but there are several additional factors that inform the final roadmap.

A note from our lawyers: Please do not send any novel or patentable ideas, copyrighted materials, samples or demos which you do not want to grant a license to Microsoft. See the Terms of Service for more information.

How can we improve the Microsoft Edge developer experience?

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".
(thinking…)

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can support and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can support it.

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

  1. Update the Dev tools...

I want to simply add border-bottom as a CSS attribute to test an issue i have, however it does not allow me to do that.

    ( border-bootm, border-left, border-right, and border-top ) @ add to list...

I have managed to do it by typing: border-bottom and then clicking out of it.

However the option in the drop down should contain this attribute.

    • Implement sideways-rl and sideways-lr values for CSS Writing Modes.

The Writing Mode property has been implemented and updated in the current version of Edge, but it only includes the values of horizontal-tb, vertical-lr and vertical-rl. Two more values provide an easier way for authors to typeset text in a sideways orientation. They are currently implemented in Firefox (since Sept 2015).

              • Iterable NodeLists

Edge is now the only browser without support for iterable nodelists. (Chrome, Firefox, Opera, & Safari TP all have it). By iterable nodelists I mean defining `NodeList.prototype[Symbol.iterator]` so that you can spread nodelists like `[...document.body.children]`.

This boils down to implementing something like:
                NodeList.prototype[Symbol.iterator] = Array.prototype[Symbol.iterator];

                • "object not iterable" error message for spread operators

Currently attempting "for <var> of" on a object without an iterator would yield a "Object doesn't support property or method 'Symbol.iterator'" error message, while using the spread operator on the same object would only generate a "Function expected" message, giving developers a hard time figuring out what's going on. Edge should improve on this error reporting.

                  • Allow developers to freely publish extension in Microsoft Store

For now very limited number of developers allowed to publish own extension in Microsoft Store and make own work available to users. Also there is no any way of how everyone else can be notified that extensions publishing to Microsoft Store is already possible. At least I hope that this issue can serve for this purpose, for everyone who vote for it.

                    • Why does Edge have a default pdf viewer that does not support xfa/xml based pdf's?

It seems that Internet Explorer is the only browser these days that supports xfa/xml based pdf's. Chrome, Firefox and now Edge - all seem to be using their own "home grown" version of a pdf viewer that is set as the default. When people try to open a pdf that is xfa/xml based (not an Acroform, but one developed using Adobe's LiveCycle software) pdf, a new window comes up with an error message. IE opens them in the browser just fine. This seems a little odd to me as IE is also a Microsoft product - one browser works with…

                      • Opening a new window should not close an extension's popup window

If my extension's main popup window opens another popup window, the main popup window is closed, effectively aborting the execution of my extension.

For instance, in case of an oauth authentication workflow a new window must be opened the handle the authentication of a login provider such as facebook. Since this closes the main popup window of my extension, this blocks implementing a smooth authentication process in my extension.

Chrome and Opera this works flawlessly, in FireFox they're working on it.

                        • Allow dev tools to be used in fullscreen

If dev tools are undocked, it seems impossible to debug web apps which use Fullscreen API on a single display.

                          * Launch app
                          * Open dev tools
                          * Take appropriate user action to enter fullscreen
                          * Switch to dev tools window

                          Expected: app remains in fullscreen.
Actual: app drops out of fullscreen.

The only way I've found to effectively debug fullscreen web apps with Edge is by using multiple displays - dev tools on one, app on another.

Docking (vertical or horizontal) should be supported in this scenario as well.

                            • Microsoft Access Panel extension is still not available for EDGE

Microsoft Access Panel extension is still not available for EDGE which stops every single AAD and Office 365 user from using https:\\myapps.microsoft.com for SSO with EDGE to cloud services. It is embarrassing to tell all my organisations O365 users to switch to using Chrome or Firefox (or IE) as Microsoft only has extensions for these and has not bothered to for EDGE.

This is despite Microsoft saying "The password-based SSO extension will become available for Edge in Windows 10 when browser extensions become supported for Edge." https://azure.microsoft.com/en-gb/documentation/articles/active-directory-appssoaccess-whatis/#password-based-single-sign-on

                              • Transform bug with scrollbars

When I move a div out of its parent using absolute positioning, and move it back into parent using transform, the scrollbars are still there, resulting in a blank scroll area! (the parent is overflow:auto or scroll) According to the w3c's specification, the scrollbars should disapear which just happens in chrome and firefox.
                                The specification is as follows:
For elements whose layout is governed by the CSS box model, the transform property does not affect the flow of the content surrounding the transformed element. However, the extent of the overflow area takes into account transformed elements. This behavior is similar…

                                  Steps to reproduce the problem:

                                  2. upload a file using html file upload

                                  • responsive media query

allow easily design responsive page using media query by emulating different resolutions (like the way Chrome does - Device emulation)

                                    • Native messaging!

Please implement Native messaging mechanism! Internet Banking users are used to sign their contracts via a smart card (which uses WinCrypt API). Nowadays, after deprecation of applets, there is no other way to access Windows API and use a smart card in order to make a trusted digital signature.

                                      • Submit Our Popular Extension

We have a popular Chrome/FireFox extension and many unhappy Edge users requesting we make an edge extension.

How can we get our extension submitted?

                                        • auxclick event for non-primary buttons

Chrome and FireFox have shipped a new event for non-primary button click action. It is called 'auxclick'. Its specification is written in this WICG github repo.
                                          https://wicg.github.io/auxclick/

For example prevent defaulting an "auxclick" event with button==1 prevents opening a new tab if the clicked node is a link.
