Microsoft Edge Developer

Hi, are you a web developer or designer?

“No, I just want to share feedback on Microsoft Edge.”

Please use the Feedback Hub (requires Windows 10) to submit your feedback in the Microsoft Edge category. This site is for web developer and designer feedback only. Other feedback will be closed without action.

“Yes, I’m a web developer or designer with feedback for the Microsoft Edge platform.”

Great! This site is where the Microsoft Edge team collects feature requests from the web developer and designer community in the categories listed to the right. For bugs on existing features, please log an issue on the Issue Tracker.

Your feedback will help us with planning and to better understand how web developers and designers are using the platform. Top standards-based feature requests will also be copied over to status.microsoftedge.com, where you can track its development status.

For the most actionable feedback, please search and up vote for existing suggestions before submitting a new suggestion, and create a separate suggestion per idea. Note that off topic or inappropriate suggestions may be moderated. The Microsoft Edge team will use suggestions as an important input, but there are several additional factors that inform the final roadmap.

A note from our lawyers: Please do not send any novel or patentable ideas, copyrighted materials, samples or demos which you do not want to grant a license to Microsoft. See the Terms of Service for more information.

How can we improve the Microsoft Edge developer experience?

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".
(thinking…)

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can support and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can support it.

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

  1. compatability mode

For single host, allow different compatibility mode settings per port. Primarily for developers who need to maintain older sites but also design new sites and test locally using IIS or IIS Express where "localhost" needs to be in compatibility mode for some sites and in edge mode for others.

    • Persist console settings

This feature would persist the state of the various toggles in the F12 console across sessions.

      Proposed Design
      - No UI changes
      - Any time any setting is changed the setting is written to disk
      - When F12 is loaded the settings are read from disk
      - Last in always wins and no sync across multiple open F12 sessions
      - The settings should use the same persistence system as other settings

      • Implement the same SSL fallback mechanism in old versions of IE

IE11 soon will will prevent insecure fallback to SSL 3.0 for Protected Mode sites. The same security mechanism should be applied to the older versions of IE11 as well.

        • Allow ctrl+v of styles into the inline styles pane at the right

Sometimes when I am editing a stylesheet of a page I like to see what something would look like with styles before reloading the page etc.

Currently, if you paste styles into the inline styles section on the right hand side of DOM explorer, they all go onto one line. In Google Chrome they separate and the styles are applied. I would like to see this in IE

                • Make CSS unit 'ch' consistent with other browsers

Currently, IE claims to support the 'ch' CSS unit (http://www.w3.org/TR/css3-values/#font-relative-lengths), but its implementation differs from other browsers' one. While other browsers consider '1ch' equal to the overall width of the character, including its side-bearings, IE seems to take into account only the width of the painted area, without side-bearings. This makes IE's implementation almost useless in practical tasks like http://lea.verou.me/2012/02/simpler-css-typing-animation-with-the-ch-unit/. Can the implementation of this unit be changed for the parity with other browsers, so we could use it interoperably?

                  • Customize headers in network monitor view

Let me choose which headers to show in the network monitor, and whether any headers should be grouped. The design of the network monitor view in Windows 10 TP (Feb 2015) with its combined Path/Name header (and the removal of the bar graph illustrating request performance and timing) is frustrating.

                      • Automatic SSL certificate selection based on URL

Google Chrome has a group policy "AutoSelectCertificateForUrls". IE could offer a similar functionality to say "this certificate is for these URLs", that is a list of URLs to be maintained per certificate. Or map URL patterns to certificates based on their attributes, e.g. Issuer or FriendlyName. The IE then automatically selects the right certificate and the user is freed from the decision, which certificate to choose, especially if he has more than one from the same Root CA. The certificate selection dialog is then only needed if the same URL is configured for more than one certificate or no URLs…

                        • F12 window "roll-up" and "roll-down"

Sometimes I need to debug issues in IE on client machines that have limited screen resolution such that switching between F12 tools and IE tab(s) is painful. I find this to be particularly true among clients using ultra books and tablets with less than 1080 vertical pixels. I realize the F12 tools already dock/undock, minimize and are themselves resizable but that only goes so far on such small screens. (Note: I’m referring specifically to cases where issues are not reproducible on development machines and thus the emulation options, as great as they are, wouldn’t help here.)

                          I'd love to see…

                            • HTML/CSS/JS 'sandbox' page integrated into tooling experience

Add an additional HTML/CSS/JS 'sandbox' page tightly integrated into the F12 tooling experience *loosely* similar to online tools like jsfiddle.net (et al) to allow developers to discover platform facets and experiment.

This could be similar in essence to firing up the F12 tools on 'about:blank' but with (1) better markup editing options, (2) the ability to open new tabs in this mode just one-click away and (3) it should always loudly play "whip my hair' by Willow Smith when activated.

                                    • Ability to filter profiler data by "my code only"

Much like in the debugger, a "my code only" option in the profiler tab would be very handy for filtering out code that I can easily change.

                                      • Improve IE Certificate Handling

Visiting web page that require certificate based authentication and authorization pop up window with currently installed certificates, showing you the available and valid certificates. This is ok. But if you have to renew a certificate (because of expiration policy) and install the new one (having the old and the new installed at the same time and certificate store) it will not show as available to authenticate with. I guess there is some grouping happening and taking the first certificate or something similar.
The expected behavior is to show the newly installed certificate even if the old is still installed.

                                        • Copy disabled properties in the CSS pane as commented out

When we untick a property in a CSS rule, the changes pane show it with a reddish background, so it's aware of the change, the proposal is that when we select the Copy option, the property is copied with /* .. */ so that we can keep track better all the changes as we will need to test again in other browsers.
