Microsoft Edge Developer

Hi, are you a web developer or designer?

“No, I just want to share feedback on Microsoft Edge.”

Please use the Feedback Hub (requires Windows 10) to submit your feedback in the Microsoft Edge category. This site is for web developer and designer feedback only. Other feedback will be closed without action.

“Yes, I’m a web developer or designer with feedback for the Microsoft Edge platform.”

Great! This site is where the Microsoft Edge team collects feature requests from the web developer and designer community in the categories listed to the right. For bugs on existing features, please log an issue on the Issue Tracker.

Your feedback will help us with planning and to better understand how web developers and designers are using the platform. Top standards-based feature requests will also be copied over to status.microsoftedge.com, where you can track its development status.

For the most actionable feedback, please search and up vote for existing suggestions before submitting a new suggestion, and create a separate suggestion per idea. Note that off topic or inappropriate suggestions may be moderated. The Microsoft Edge team will use suggestions as an important input, but there are several additional factors that inform the final roadmap.

A note from our lawyers: Please do not send any novel or patentable ideas, copyrighted materials, samples or demos which you do not want to grant a license to Microsoft. See the Terms of Service for more information.

How can we improve the Microsoft Edge developer experience?

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can support and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can support it.

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

  1. Custom filtering in console

This feature would add an input box to the console that would winnow the displayed console items to only items that match the contents

    Proposed Design
    - Input box in top right of console in the same location as the find box on other tools
    - The console items should be winnowed as the developer types (no need to commit with enter etc.)
    - Searches all visible info (message, location, property key/values)
    - Simple text search (could be done on the serialized version from the copy item command)
    - Whitespace is treated as an AND operation (e.g. window foo would…

  3. Cancel find operations in the DOM Explorer

This feature would add an 'x' button the search box in the debugger and DOM Explorer that would cancel a find operation once started.

    Proposed Design
    - After committing a search and locking the text box a red 'x' is added in the far right of the control (in place of the clear button) that once pressed will cancel the find operation and return the text box to the edit state (placing focus at the end of the text)
    - Is in tab order after the (now) read only text box
    - Will not clear the text box
    - Will…

  4. Persist active document in debugger

This feature would persist which document was last open in the debugger.

    Proposed Design
    - The URL of the last open document will be persisted and if F12 is opened on a page containing that document the document will be made the active tab in the debugger
    - If the document hasn't been loaded by the page then the default (root) document should be shown

  5. Source links for hrefs printed to the console

This feature would scan (via a regex - eugh) for any URL inside a message and when found convert them into a hyperlink that will navigate the debugger.

    Proposed Design
    - Use the same logic as the debugger for detecting and canonicalization a URL into an absolute URL
    - Hyperlinks should appear as hyperlinks and when activated navigate the debugger

  6. Stop all profilers button

This feature would extend the "Debugging is disabled while profiling..." message to include a button to stop all profilers.

    Proposed Design
    - Extend the common notification UI to include a button in the far right of the UI as a tab stop
    - Add a button that reads "Stop Profiling", which when activated messages any tool that is profiling to stop as if the user hit 'stop profiling' in that tool (e.g. process the report etc.)

  9. Find results pane

This feature would add a "Find Results' pane to the debugger. When carrying out a find across files operation in the debugger (by pressing enter) the results will be shown in a pane that lists out all the matches along with a preview. The list of results can be used to navigate the editor to the results.

    Proposed Design
    - A light dismiss pane that will replace the console window when displayed
    - Navigating the results pane (mouse or keyboard) will change the editor view but will not set focus in the editor
    - Activating a match will change the…

  10. Support for asynchronous pluggable protocol in IE (Internet Explorer)

Allow custom URI's in Internet Explorer, like nabto://device.company.net.
Basically implement the IInternetProtocol family of COM interfaces on Windows Phone 8 and allow us to add our own protocol handlers (in the Registry) - it is possible on Windows 8.

  11. Add new tabs like other browsers do

When opening a link in a new tab Edge seems to add the new tab at a random place in the middle of my tab array. It takes me quite a while to find it. It seems the logic is each tab has a parent and new tabs are added at the end of all children from the parent tab. Where other browsers add the new tab at the beginning, meaning you know where it's going to be.
