  1. Add multi-selection support in ListCollectionView (and friends)

A ListCollectionView keeps a "SelectedItem" to track selected item in a collection, it would be really nice to extend it so it also has a "SelectedItems"-observablecollection that tracks more than one 1 item. And of course keep "SelectedItem" for the "most selected item" kind of.

  2. Multithreaded Panels

Sometimes you want a part of the UI to update seamlessly in parallell to what the rest of the UI thread is doing. The only way to achieve this right now is to have a topmost window running on a different thread.

It would be great if there was a Panel Control that could run in a separate thread instead

  3. Provide native support for MEF, in particular for composing XAML elements

At the moment, XAML elements cannot be natively exported or imported as composable MEF parts, but I would like to see much better use of MEF in the WPF framework. MEF could also be baked into the commanding infrastructure and other parts of the framework

  4. backstage

Add a Backstage View to the WPF Ribbon, like what's in Office 2010

  5. Make MarkupExtension an interface so classes can be DependencyObjects with Attached Properties

MarkupExtension should be an interface. Then extensions could be DependencyObjects and thereby support attached properties

  6. provide built-in docking, ribbon, customizable toolbar/menu/keyboard support! as the goodies in vc++

latest vc++ versions comes with a powerful GUI suite, including what i've mentioned in the title, and skinning support, tabbed document support, etc...
but how about the managed world? if microsoft could provide these ASAP, it'll greatly boost WPF's acceptance and bring more people to desktop development.

  7. INotifyPropertyChanged is not needed

The compiler can be smart enough to automatically add notifications whenever a property is used as a binding source, or in any other situation where notifications are appropriate..

INotifyPropertyChanged would still be available for use if explicit notifications are needed.

  8. WPF Datagrid Tab to new row after editing

This problem has been around for a long time and it would be nice to see it fixed in the next version of WPF

  9. iobserveable

Make Async/Await more usable inn WPF/XAML

Classes should be able to implement bindable properties which return Task<>.
All WPF controls should implement IObservable

  11. Easier control template customization

In many cases a simple change to the appearance of a control requires the wholesale replacement of the control template. It seems like there needs to be a more granular method to customizing the control without having to copy and edit the entire control template. It is not always clear what parts of a control template the control depends on such that replacing the template leads to subtle bugs in the controls behavior or display.

  13. Direct X and Media Foundation Support

Support for Web Cam, DVD, Blu Ray, TV Tuner, Radio, All the great stuff we loved in direct show and all future features we will love in media foundation. Bring it to the .net WPF world a little easier!

  14. Create some 3D controls

Make use of the 3d capabilites in WPF with some 3D controls. Put them in the WPF Toolkit if you dont want them in the Main .Net trunk for now. It's fluff, but some fluff is nice now and then. Transitions, front/back controls, etc.

  15. Create a StrokeGradient Brush

Create a stroke gradient brush. For example ... like Charles Petzold has simulated in his blog entry: http://www.charlespetzold.com/blog/2009/02/Graphical-Paths-with-Gradient-Colors.html

  17. Auto-generate ViewModel interface from {Binding} expressions

Have the XAML designer automatically generate an interface for the ViewModel based on the Binding expressions in the XAML. This would give the MVVM pattern better type-safety and eliminate data binding errors.

  18. Validation with DataAnnotations like in ASP.NET MVC.

Also make Entity-Framework fully compatible and integrated with DataAnnotations validation.

  19. Better custom chrome support for Window

It's without a doubt that custom chrome apps are becoming popular, with office as being a leader, and other MS apps.

It would be great if full support was baked into the window, I am speaking in terms of:

    - Better drop shadow support for borderless windows
    - Retaining animation for minimizing, maximizing windows
    - Aero snap support
    - Fixing issues when WindowStyle is none and maximizing causing it to be in Kiosk mode.
    - Inherent and native support for extending glass into non client area.

There are far too much hacking, pinvoking to be done just to achieve these…

  20. Allow strongly-typed ViewModels, as in ASP.NET MVC.

It would be nice to let us specify the type of a ViewModel, as in ASP.NET MVC - this would allow us to catch a whole swathe of binding errors at compile time.
