  1. Make it easy to use WPF from C++

WPF is the most modern technology for creating GUIs Microsoft has to provide. Unluckily it is rather unpleasant to use from C++(/CLI) (at least a lot more unpleasant than C#).

So add C++/CLI as an additional first-class language for developing WPF applications.

      • Make more WPF features work in partial trust

It would be great if more WPF features were available in partial trust like bitmap effects applied to my application UI, access to more than just the domain of origin.

        • Make it client/server

Make only the UI-related code working on the client; something similar to www.canoo.com (RIA Suite)

                    • port Silverlight themes to WPF

It would be nice if some of the Silverlight themes like Accent and JetPack were officially ported to WPF 4 ... it will really help LoB developers without design skills develop decent-looking applications. By default, the DataGrid from WPF 4 under Aero looks like it's from Windows 3.1.

                      • Add full BIDI support.

Currently the text render ignores unicode control characters (such as Right To Left Override) which results in wrong textual display for Arabic and Hebrew languages

                        • Support SmoothStreaming in WPF

Silverlight SmoothStreaming is provides ability to display high definition video in Silverlight applications. Why we don't have the same ability in WPF? This would open possibility to implement rich media center applications (for example running on TV set-top-boxes).

                          • Make it easier!

XAML is very (very!) difficult to learn and use. It is largely undiscoverable (unlike the .NET framework) and often produces error messages that border on mystical. I know this stuff can be difficult and that everyone is trying hard but everytime I try to do anything "outside the box" in XAML it's tremendously difficult. Run of the mills stuff is pretty easy, but one foot outside the line and “wham!”. At my last employer I hand-coded (and code the generation of postscript) and I’ve done similarly with HTML, so I’m use to the idea of rendering and declarative syntax (I…

                            • make traversing the XAML DOM easier: http://bit.ly/c7gKnp

                              * A XAML DOM selector engine similar to Sizzle. Given that XAML doesn’t have complex selector syntax like CSS this would essentially be a highly optimized tree walker for the VisualTree that would wrap the disjoint APIs in WPF / Silverlight for getting visual parents and children.

                              * A set of fluent APIs for creating XAML DOM objects (Panels, Controls, etc) that would wrap some annoying inconsistencies when travelling between Silverlight and WPF as well as making it easier to do things in code that are painfully verbose in pure XAML (I think states of the VSM is a great…

                                      • Make WPF Cross Platform

Make WPF design (and maybe even built) apps work on the big 3 platforms (Windows, Linux, Mac), including UWP. This would make using Visual Studio and the WPF framework an unbeatable approach for UI tasks!

As it is, I am using WPF primarily for prototyping (by only one developer). When it comes to actual development we ditch Visual Studio and use cross platform frameworks and IDEs.

                                        • Add the ability to reveal a password to PasswordBox

The UWP PasswordBox has the option to reveal the password in the PasswordBox. The WPF PasswordBox does not have this option. Please add it to the WPF PasswordBox.
