    Both of your code blocks are identical. I assume you meant to leave out the FileTypeFilter in the first example.

    Note that it has been this way since WinRT as a design choice from the API team. I agree that it seems a bit ... unnecessary here, at least on the surface.

    Please also note that it won't crash your app; it throws an exception that you should catch. If that happens in an event handler and you don't have a try/catch in there, you might be missing it. This is the exception information it throws:

    Exception thrown: 'System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException' in PickerTest.exe
    WinRT information: The FileTypeFilters property must have at least one file type filter specified.
    System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x80004005): Unspecified error

    Here's the code I used to throw the exception

    private async void Button_Click(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e)
    {
    try
    {

    var picker = new FolderPicker();

    await picker.PickSingleFolderAsync();
    }
    catch (Exception ex)
    {
    System.Diagnostics.Debug.WriteLine(ex.ToString());
    }
    }

    While we will continue to make the WPF tools in Visual Studio better with each release (example: Xaml Edit-and-Continue is VS “15”), we have no plans to implement a converter from Windows Forms to WPF at this time.

    Thanks,
    Visual Studio Team
