Yubikeys, my Infnoise true random generator, debugger attachments for various IoT boards such as Particle Photon/Argon/Xenon and a whole host of ESP-8266 and -32 boards, Adafruit Feather boards and Feather doubler/tripler boards; some of them use usb serial and some need special drivers(available for Win or Linux but not at the same time). I could go on for a while. Also Wireshark packet capture/nmap/etc for my laptop running Win 10 with WSL on it so I can figure out who/how/where someone is tapping into the office's network. I think you get my drift on this. It really is needed badly.

It can be backed up fairly easily, tho not from inside WSL. Go to C:\Users\<username>\Appdata\Local\Packages\CanonicalGroupLimited.Ubuntu18.04onWindows_79rhkp1fndgsc (although the part starting from the underscore after onWindows may be different on different PCs) and backup that directory with your favorite method. I've seen people do it with a backup program and I've seen using 7-Zip to backup/compress the whole thing. Make sure you get that directory and all the sub-directories as one has the rootfs in it and another has all the permissions for the rootfs (I think in one of the localstate dirs... best to just back it *all* up). To restore just put it all back to the same place.

Please see the ask "Consider enabling cron jobs, daemons and background tasks". A team response said it was in the upcoming release.

@WinEunuuchs2Unix, I'll try anything that works. Just dl'd so I'll take a look at it. Thanks!

If you would look up, you will see it's in the new Insider build, which means the next update (~April) will have it built-in.

Related to “Add USB Device support”: https://wpdev.uservoice.com/forums/266908-command-prompt-console-bash-on-ubuntu-on-windo/suggestions/16759696-add-usb-device-support

This is a common ask and, now that we’ve gotten through most of the fundamental engineering, we’ll be more able to start looking-into device support sometime relatively soon, though no guarantees about when and what ;)

I still have a True Random Generator with USB attachment that I can't use as WSL doesn't properly see USB connections yet. Also unable to debug android apps that are on device. Please try to get this done.

Yep, this would be really cool. Not just for URLs, but things like paths too. Script emits a path to an error log? Just ctrl+click it to open!

I can see some trickery around the parsing (performance impacts? security? and of course the parsing itself…) and the launching of another app (security again?). But it would be awesome.

It’s on our backlog for sure.

This ask is on our backlog. When we make progress, we’ll update the status of this issue.

If you’ve not seen this ask’s status change it’s because we’ve not yet started work on this ask. Like many longer-standing asks, this is a very complex issue and requires significant engineering effort which has to be prioritized and funded.

Polite Ask: PLEASE DON’T POST +1 COMMENTSTHIS IS USERVOICEUPVOTE THE ASK ITSELF.

POSTING +1’s SIMPLY ADDS NOISE & DEVALUES OTHERS’ VALUABLE FEEDBACK.
