      I implemented a cross-platform workaround for FindAncestor binding in WPF/UWP. It's not pretty but it works.

          Very very important for us to port a large WPF control library to UWP. The lack of x:Static would be acceptable if we had MarkupExtension and could write our own. That's what we did for Silverlight.

          The only thing stopping us porting to UWP (our customers are requested UWP) is MarkupExtension. It basically prevents our entire library from working..
