Tom, it depends where the shortcut is actually being stored. There has been an issue with shortcuts that are in non-writeable locations. We've resolved many of them, as far as I can recall. If you're still having a specific problem, please send us feedback using the Feedback Tool so you can capture what's going wrong exactly.

You opened from a shortcut or the start menu/screen, right? I'm pretty sure this is a bug and I know what's causing it.

You will be Rich’s best friend forever. He loves the idea of a Quake console as well and talks about it all the time. :P I know for sure this is in our backlog already.

Some of the suggestions like persistence and multiple sessions and whatnot seem related to the “history between sessions” and tabs/multiplexing ideas. Same technical challenges apply, but sounds possible at some point. :)

@planetarian That is indeed a way of looking at it as well. This is a separate item on our backlog, so perhaps it can be done without the other pieces (history/tabs/etc) as a pre-requisite. I'll take some notes. Thanks for your feedback! :)

You can already change the color and fonts in the prompt window by right-clicking the title bar and choosing Defaults or Properties. There's a tab with these settings. Is there something else you meant?

Also UTF-8/Unicode is captured in another idea already. :)

I hear this one all the time... and I yearn for it as well. I find myself pressing Ctrl+T and Ctrl+W in pretty much every window I use. Thanks, browsers. :P

It's just one of the harder things to get right (either in this form, or the multiplexing form). If you've ever seen a sad tab in your favorite browser when some component crashes (or experienced the entire thing freezing up because one part misbehaved), that's most of what gives me trouble in thinking this one through.

There's a lot of good talk on this thread. Using hotkeys to switch tabs, blinking for succeeded/failed, tear away tabs... I'm taking notes.

I personally hope we get to this one day as well. :) --Michael

We have a lot of items on our console backlog, and this is one of them. I wish I could commit to any particular feature, but cannot. Still, tabs are something that we personally desire too! --Rich

Interesting idea, I haven't heard this one yet (though a couple people I've talked to here have). I like it, and am adding it to the backlog. Don't know where it will land priority-wise, but thanks for the good thinking. --Rich

Blurring the content behind the window and keeping the text opaque as Matt suggested are both ideas associated with our transparency task group. --Rich

    Microsoft Console Team commented  ·

Yes, you're right again. :) -- We are thinking the same thing, and would have even liked to get both of these into the technical preview. Time was against us and we (well I, blame me) decided that *some* transparency was better than none for now. And again, the all too familiar disclaimer: we can't commit to including any feature or change, including these. --Rich

Can anyone provide commentary going into a bit more detail on the templating request? We’ve discuss and “aren’t certain we are sure!”

    Microsoft Console Team commented  ·

The infinite scroll idea is a good one and it's on our backlog. To hide the fact that I am not sure what you are asking (oops), I'll let Paul or Michael jump on this one! --Rich

Roger that. I was sure we had a printing item on our backlog, but it's either been dropped or -- more likely -- I'm just missing it. We'll discuss in planning -- thanks! --Rich

Thanks for the feedback. We are tracking this item and agree it can be better. We're waiting to see how some shell functionality / API's land before we take a harder look at getting this changed. --Rich

We have three backlog items related to this area. It's great validation to see avid users requesting the same features we want! --Rich

Thanks, we share that sentiment, exactly. And the same first name. Coincidence? :) --Rich

We have an item on our backlog titled: "Ctrl-scroll wheel and CTRL+Plus/Minus to resize font." It's under consideration, absolutely. We can't commit to delivering any feature or functionality though. --Rich
